Insomnia is difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep. Symptoms of insomnia include finding it hard to fall asleep, waking up several times during the night and feeling tired during the day.
Yep that was definitely what I had. Insomnia. All I had to blame was the trauma from my past. Now the only safety I felt was the 5am sunrise that shone into my small cosy apartment every morning telling me it was safe to sleep. Without any nightmares of overthinking something would happen.
It was like that thought in the back of your head. When you were a little kid and you woke up during the night thinking someone had broken in so you would stay awake until the littlest sunlight began thinking it was safe to fall back asleep. Because now people were awake and nothing would happen.
I could feel my nerves rose as I pushed the hair grip into my bun more making sure it wouldn't fall out. I struggled my way into the small yet busy bar. The stupid black heels I had been made to wear clattered against the old mouldy floor. It was safe to say this place was old and ran down. It smelt of cigarette smoke and a mixture of different alcoholic drinks which at times made my nose burn excitingly waiting to free itself from the stench.
The only reason I had gotten the stupid job was because one of my best friends Michael Clifford had suggested it to me. Thinking it would help with my insomnia. Sure he was correct at some points I felt more happy about sleeping when I got home however I would sit up and play sims while wait for the first light of dawn so it was safe to fall asleep. The shift were tough and had definitely taken a toll on my personal and social life. It meant I would turn up at 11pm and end at 3am. Which made me sleep all day being the least proactive when a normal human being should be.
"Hey eff have you seen Michael today" a tall black haired girl asked as she sat down next to me in the small staff room out back taking off her large black heels
"No I haven't sorry Tess I'm sure he's right outside waiting for you" I replied sending her a soft smile as I nodded towards the bar where the bleach blonde with bright green eyes sat at the bar with someone.
It was like Michael and Tessa were made for each other almost like soulmates. They were perfect both having bright green and blue eyes with great energy. Both great on a night out as well. There personalities were so similar as well they both had interest in music and video games.
We had created a tradition. The annual bonfire. It was an event you had begun at the end of college. You all drove out of New York down to New Jersey where you met on the closest beach. You'd make a campfire and eventually Michael pulled his guitar out while Tessa hummed and sang along to the tune angelically.
Now what part of it did I have. Nothing I was talentless. Even from graduating college and entering the real world I had no idea what I wanted to do or be. So most nights I sat up playing sims. I guess you could say it was a guilty pleasure or bad habit some would say in a more appropriate way.
"Hey mikey can I get you in anything" I say approaching the bar while trying to fix the bottom of my shirt
"Yeah I'll just have a beer and he'll have" Michael replied laying his phone flat on the bar
"I'll have a beer as well" a deep thick accent said. My eyes shot up from the bottom of my shirt to see where the deep voice came from
"Woah" I whispered to myself taking in the sight in front of me.
The man was gorgeous to say. With long curly blonde hair and bright ocean blue eyes. His figure was large and muscular he could definitely knock me out in one hit. He had a red scratch marked face to add on to his mystery look.
"Got in a fight with a cat" I joked referring to the bright red scratch mark on the blonde boys cheek. As I filled up to glasses with cold beer
"Actually yeah the dude had pretty sharp nails" he replied with a large smirk on his face
"Yeah Effie you should've saw it. Proper low blow on the other guys behalf" Michael pitched in with excitement. nodding his head in a thanking way as you placed his beer down in front of him. The blonde boy doing the same as you placed his down.
"Hey babe" Tessa greeted Michael as she walked out of the bar towards him giving him a kiss on the cheek. Giving the blonde boy a smile as well
"Am I the only one who's lost here" I asked while making some random mans drink
"YOU HAVEN'T INTRODUCED THEM YET MICHAEL" Tessa scolded Michael and slapped his arm playfully as she took a sip of her drink.
"I was about to before you slapped me" he complained rubbing his arm to ease the pain
"Excuses" she mumbled under her breathe taking a sip of her drink
"Effie this is luke, luke this Effie now you guys know each other" Michael said introducing us to each other as he brought his drink up to his lips
"Luke Hemmings second most known boxer in New York" luke smirked holding out his hand for you to shake
"Effie Scott worlds most untalented person known in New York with a strange addition to sims" I smirked back shaking his hand strongly
"You have a good grip ever thought of boxing" he said pulling his hand away taking another sip of his drink
"Funny hemmings does it look like I'm a boxer to you" I snarled gesturing my hand up and down my body to show my height and body weight
"Already calling me by second name basis. I think I'm going to like you Effie Scott" he smirked leaning back downing the rest of his drink
