DAY FIVE.
The pain was barely there, to be honest, I thought it was going to be worse than this. Thank God it wasn't. Nicolas went on a run, it was only ten thirty, and it was our fifth day together. Sighing, I took a piece of bread and added butter unto it.
The door swung open, a breathing Nicolas showing up. I took a bite of my bread and rushed to him.
His eyes looked serious, he looked at me. "We need to go, now."
I panicked. Was everything alright? Nicolas rushed past me, going straight to our room to... pack our things? I followed, my feet on autopilot.
"Is everything okay?" I asked, standing in front of him with the bread on my hand. He took out our bags, shoving everything. He barely looked at me. What was wrong? Did something happen to Ellie? To my friends? Chelsea? "Nicolas, is everything okay?" I tried again.
His response was short. "No. So we need to go."
I ate the remaining bread and didn't ask anymore questions; I didn't want to push his buttons. He still scared me, sometimes.
When we got everything packed, I dressed appropriately. Something that looked okay. Nicolas was occupied with his phone: answering calls, making calls, anything. He almost forgot I existed. I didn't do anything about it. Pissing him off was the last thing I wanted to do when it came to him, especially now, he looked so close to cutting someone's head off.
He groaned, closing his eyes and running his hands through his hair. I stood up from my chair.
"Nico?" I called him softly.
His eyes opened, the annoyed look gone and instead... he had a tired smile and softer eyes.
"Come here." he sighed.
I followed, walking to him as fast as possible. Then, I was in his arms. Nicolas was hugging me, he was hugging me like it was the last time, like he might never do it again. Nervous and scared, I hugged him back.
"Nicolas?"
He kissed my forehead repeatedly, "If I knew this will happen, I could've stayed in bed with you."
"What happened?" I asked.
"Just business." he gave me another sigh.
I never asked Nicolas what he was, or his business, I do know that he had a huge house, and a brother. And Ellie's thing with arranged marriage, but that's it. Nothing more.
"What's your job, Nicolas?" I was curious, and it was a normal question a wife can ask... or even just a stranger. I barely knew what he did, what his past is.
He stopped hugging me, staring me down with his eyes. "We can talk about it on the plane?" he asked. I nodded, I wasn't expecting him to say anything, wait no, I was expecting him to say something, I just didn't know what.
