Lina's apartment
"Welcome to my home" I'm not sure what else to say in this case. Silje is my first ever guest that isn't Jess, Maria, or Sara. Well let's not count the professional moving in helpers. I hung my bag on my coat rack as well as silje's and I's coats. Then for a few seconds I watched Silje look around my living and dining area. After a hit of realization that I have a guest, I walked into my kitchen to grab some bottled water.
"You can set your things down wherever you like" I mentioned while handing her a water bottle. "Thank you" she took the water from my hand. The light from my door entrance is the only thing lighting up my smallish space so I turned on the kitchen light too. Still not enough. I walked over to a table that's next to my couch to turn on the salt lamp my sister gifted me. That lamp always reminds me of when I first moved away from the U.S.
My mom wasn't that understanding at first but now she's more accepting and happy for my happiness, surprisingly. Somewhere in her I know that she's kinda worried I'll lose my 'ok' Spanish and my Mexican roots but I'm surely am not. I have my weekly Mazapan and haven't broke it at all so far in a year! Talent honestly."You have a cute place... I like your very minimalist look" I heard her say from the couch area. Can't tell if she's being serious or sarcastic so I chuckled. "Thank you" I walked over to her. This is when I noticed she actually did place her stuff down which made me feel happy for some reason. The fact that she actually did it and got a little more comfortable.
I waited for her to finish drinking her water because it seems like she has something else to say."Why do you have so little furniture and decor?" She glanced over behind me at my kitchen. She probably noticed how mostly empty it is there too. She then surprised me when she walked over to my kitchen and started opening my cabinets. I'm just amazed at her actions but I'm enjoying It. "Well because I left most of my house related things back in Germany". She stopped her actions and walked back to me, still looking at my apartment. "How come?". I didn't mind that she was walking around, I know she's not judging anything. I mean I hope.
She pointed at my printed lesbian flag inspired painting that's taped onto the wall with cute washing tape. Her quick smile at me and finger pointing at it had let me know that she likes it. She then proceeded the tour by looking out the windows.
"Well, shipping things is expensive...and I honestly didn't want memories of my life before cause it would be too hurtful... So I only brought the things that are mine, things from home in California, like that salt lamp" I pointed at it making her glance over to the lamp. "And the furniture you see here" I change my tone to make things more humorous. I spoke into my fake microphone "is all brand newww! Including that lesbian art work right over there" I waved my hand in a half circle over the painting. It's nice to hear Silje laugh again even if it's probably a fake laugh since I'm not that funny. More awkward than anything I think. I let a little laugh out myself before things got silent again. "My room is more furnish I'd say, since that's where I spend most of my time, and where most of my things are" I continued back in a normal tone. She tucked a piece of hair behind her ear as if she's starting to feel shy. Not sure why she would be feeling this way all the sudden but I decided to ignore it for now.
"This way miss Silje" I anchored my arm with hers in a goofy way and we headed into my bedroom. I turned on the lights making my room more visible. "Wow pretty cute" she mentioned. Her arm slipped away from my grip as she started to walk around my room. It seems like she's walking over to my collage of photos and more printed drawings/painting. Some of the art is mine that I made myself also, digitally and hand made. Theres also some art work from my famous artist friend all the way in Brazil.
