Tine straightened the non-existent crinkles on his navy blue shirt before running his fingers across his raven hair, trying to fix his bangs before he leaves. Today marks his first day of work with the federal crime lab. After years of training and rounds of elimination, finally, he managed to score himself a position in his dream workplace. He had spent his last few months preparing for the interviews and mock scenes investigations tirelessly. To say he was proud of himself would be an understatement.
Being a crime scene investigator wouldn't be an easy task, Tine anticipated. In fact, some of his seniors told him that it was a mammoth task. Often, when they have a big case that gained much public attention, the entire team would need to stay in the labs for a few days without returning home. Yet, his interest in looking for the truth behind smokescreens and his passion for delivering justice to the victims overpowered these negative comments. Ohm and Fong had been helpful since his university days, especially when it came to their expertise - DNA forensics and profiling. He thought of the conversation he had with Fong months ago.
"Tine, are you sure you're going to the tryouts for our crime lab? Look! How miserable I am right now."
Fong sighed and sipped on his iced coffee tiredly, prominent eyebags were hanging underneath his bloodshot red eyes. The team had just finished solving a big case, he hadn't seen the blue sky for a few days.
"Phi, we've been to this topic so many times, and you know I wouldn't change my mind easily once I've decided to go for something."
Tine pushed and offered the plate of chocolate brownies to Fong, he knew Fong needed food more than anyone else now.
"Fine, I know there's nothing more I could've done to change your mind anyway. Have you found someone to fill your referee reports yet? If not, Ohm and I could fill them out for you, you are our favourite nong, wouldn't want anyone to be our newcomer in the next term."
Fong gave Tine a watery smile, his head was pounding painfully, he needed his bed desperately now. He took a bite of the brownie and sighed at the heavenly taste. Tine knew that smile very well, it was the same supportive smile that Fong had given him when he first told Fong about his plans to be a crime scene investigator midway through his degree.
"That would be nice, khob khun khrap phi. Send P'Ohm my regards as well when you see him next time." Tine wai-ed to Fong politely.
"Mai ben rai, just giving you a heads-up though, our team's senior investigator is a little weird. He doesn't talk much and he usually has his resting shit face on, just don't assume that you've done something wrong when you see him around. He is just an extremely weird guy."
"Weird? How? In what ways?"
Tine raised his eyebrows inquisitively, his interest piqued at Fong's mention of this mystery senior investigator.
"He is weird in a very hot way, I think you might fall for him, you know, he is totally your type."
Fong nudged his left shoulder against Tine's right, teasing him light-heartedly.
"Shia phi, I thought you were serious about him being weird."
Tine blushed profusely, the tips of his ears turning into a bright shade of red. He took his cup of Blue Hawaii and sipped on it, trying to conceal his embarrassment.
"I was! He is really weird! You can ask Ohm the next time you see him if I am telling you the truth!"
Tine stuck his tongue out playfully, deflecting Fong's comment of his type. Yet, he couldn't deny that he was already looking forward to his future of working in the same crime lab with his seniors, and the guy whom Fong described as a weirdly hot guy.
