Lee Hyunjin just barely dodged the spear again. "No way!"

"Letting you go means endangering the realm! I am a messenger, I cannot make the same mistake again!" Hanuel attacked more relentlessly, backing Lee Hyunjin into a corner.

Again? Did something happen? Lee Hyunjin thought but still responded, "I won't leave my friends to fight a losing battle!" Lee Hyunjin blocked the spear with both claws and then slashed at Hanuel.

"Why are you so certain that they even need you there? Is it because you're Scion?" Hanuel didn't dodge and Lee Hyunjin's claws cut through his cheek, drawing blood. Lee Hyunjin hesitated when he saw that, panic filled his eyes but then Hanuel turned his spear horizontally and then pressed it against his throat in an instant.

Lee Hyunjin struggled to breathe.

"You're this weak! Taking you there is no different than handing you over to her."

Lee Hyunjin glared at Hanuel for a moment. He hated it, hated being called weak again after all the effort he put in. Sure he wasn't as strong as Hanuel but he wasn't weak either.

Lee Hyunjin's eyes flashed. He growled, "not weak!"

The black shadow wrapped around Lee Hyunjin, forcing Hanuel to draw back in order to avoid the corruption. "Do you think you'd be of any use to your friends? Pushing and pulling corruption around won't change the tides of battle!"

"Although you could be right, I could never live with myself if something happened to them again!" Lee Hyunjin unfurled the shadow, he knew it wouldn't work against Hanuel in the long run, he had to use something else.

Hanuel scoffed, "give me a better answer, you think your regret is worth sacrificing the realm for?"

Lee Hyunjin glared at Hanuel, "Jaehyun Sunbae saved my life and Zhang Jue's. If you think I'm despicable enough to turn away from them right now you're dead wrong!"
Hanuel's gaze was cold, "I'll ask you again, do you think they need you there? They are strong without you, what makes you think they need you?!"

Lee Hyunjin stopped moving, his head was held low as if Hanuel's words had finally crippled his stubbornness.

Hanuel also stopped moving, "answer me!" There wasn't an ounce of pity in him as he watched Lee Hyunjin.

"They do not have to need me, for me to be there for them, that's how naive I am. They are strong, I know that, I've seen their strength and perhaps they could get through this war without me but Hanuel, I will not risk it, I won't leave my friends and hide away whilst they fight simply because there's a chance they don't need me. I'm the kind of idiot that easily moved by even the smallest bit of kindness they've shown me, that alone is reason enough for me to not abandon them," Lee Hyunjin had determination burning in his eyes. He already made up his mind, he would not turn away from this fight.

"Then prove it to me Lee Hyunjin! That it's not a mistake to let you fight!" Hanuel got ready to lunge at him, spear in hand.

"For the first time in my life, I'm useful, there's something I can do for others! For the first time I can protect the people closest to me and the countless other lives that are at risk because of this war. When I came to this world I had nothing, there was nothing tying me to my former world because I was alone there. I'm not alone here, I'm not useless here. I may not be needed but I have people I care for and you can be damn sure I won't turn my back on them! I'll prove it to you Hanuel. I am not weak!"

The two of them lunged at each other, the spear crashing into Lee Hyunjin's claws which he'd brought out again.

Hanuel thought Lee Hyunjin was going to jump back because the shadow claws would dissipate completely if they stayed long in contact with his spear.
