Hanuel looked away from him and to the double bladed spear that was lodged into the ground beside his head.
Sometimes, when ameteurs fought and lost control of their emotions, they'd get desperate, even if it was a sparring match, their survival instincts would kick in and if given the chance they might end up killing their opponents.
Lee Hyunjin was desperate to prove himself, he was injured badly and on the verge of losing, Hanuel had no doubt that he was only standing because of his willpower but he was able to hold back at the last moment.
For someone who'd shown from time to time that he was mentally weak and unstable, he was able to control himself in the final moment.
Hanuel was right, Lee Hyunjin's body was only moving due to his intense desire to prove himself and win.
Once he realised he lost, he couldn't hold on anymore and he had to use the spear to just barely keep himself upright.
Lee Hyunjin was crying, obviously the taste of defeat this time was hard to swallow even though he was used to failing.
This time he truly wanted to win because it wasn't just for himself. His loss wouldn't affect only himself so his desire to win was strong.
Hanuel could see that and he said plainly, "it's a draw."
"It's not, those spears would've finished me off in seconds. You weren't even concerned at all," Lee Hyunjin said regrettably, he used a shaking hand to furiously wipe at his face as if trying to hide the fact that he was crying.
Hanuel gestured to the spear with his eyes, "that last attack also could've finished me off but you held back and since you and I aren't actually enemies and this isn't an actual death match, I think we're tied."
"Tied?" Lee Hyunjin asked disbelievingly. "But you were holding back the whole time, how could it be a tie?"
Hanuel furrowed his brows, "what do you mean?"
Lee Hyunjin explained, "spear that rends the earth and sky, I've heard you say it, I realised it isn't about the spear... it's the attribute . 'First rend the earth' meant you would use water, so you probably have another attribute," he paused before adding hesitantly, "one that rends the sky."
Hanuel's eyes rounded, he looked genuinely surprised and proud, "when did you become so smart," he chuckled for a bit, "either way, it doesn't matter Jinjin, it's a tie."
"A tie?" Lee Hyunjin asked again.
Hanuel nodded, "you won, I won, the conclusion is... half and half."
"Really?"
Hanuel sighed, "yes. If it was a real battle and I held back I think I'd probably be dead and it'd be my fault, same goes for you. I underestimated you and for that I am sorry."
"Then does that mean....!"
Hanuel conceded, "you will go with me but if for a moment I think that you're in danger of being captured—
Lee Hyunjin nodded excitedly, he eyes were sparkling, "I understand!"
"I haven't fini—
"I'll work hard!"
"Can you let me—
"I definitely won't get captured!"
Hanuel gave up trying to speak. He turned his gaze once more to the spear. He was still linked to Eun but Lee Hyunjin was the one wielding her. Such a thing as another person wielding someone else beast weapon.... it should be impossible.
