chapter one: liar

You're walking down the hall of your dorm nervous as hell. It's your last year at Jujustu Tech and you've just turned eighteen. While you're excited to get your final year of school over with, you're dreading the impending doom that is Nobara asking you how your summer was. What the hell are you going to tell her? That all you did was walk from your couch to the pantry and back to bed? God, she already thinks you're super lame and this would just be the final nail in the coffin.

You place your suitcase down on your bed and sigh as you take your seat beside it. You've got to come up with something interesting to tell her you've done. Maybe you went to the beach for a weekend or left the city for a few days.

Just then, as if on cue, Nobara runs into your room while yelling your name. "Y/N, Y/N, you'll never guess what I just found out! Hi, by the way, welcome back!" she beams, hugging you tightly.

"Hey," you smile nervously back as you wrap your arms around her before she quickly lets go. "What are you so excited about?"

"Guess!"

"Nobara, I literally can't. I never know what you're going to say to me," you chuckle.

"Fine," she grumbles. "Fushiguro lost it!"

"Huh? What did he lose, his dog?" you ask with pure confusion written all over your face.

"His virginity!" she shouts, squealing with excitement.

Shit, that means I'm the last one...

Nobara takes the seat beside you on your bed and kicks her feet as she giggles to herself. "I can't believe it, he's even got some secret partner now that he won't tell me about!"

"That's great," you smile sheepishly.

When Nobara gasps, you realize she's finally recognized what this means for you, and your stomach begins to twist into knots.

"Hmm, since you're the only one left, we're gonna have to do something about that this semester," she says while trying to be reassuring.

"Oh, no," you mutter nervously as you wave your hands at her. "Actually, I lost mine, too."

Nobara inhales deeply for what feels like an eternity to you. Isn't she ever going to breathe out?!

"No way!" she gasps as she sucks in even more air. "With who?!"

"Uh, no one really," you chuckle awkwardly.

"Oh my god, it's someone I know, isn't it! Was it Fushiguro? Are you who he lost it to?!" she giggles excitedly.

"No!" you scoff. "It's not Fushiguro or Itadori. They're like brothers to me, that'd be weird."

"Hmm," she then begins to think, "Well it can't be a first or second year because they're underaged... Oh my god!"

Shit, you think to yourself as you begin to freak out internally, she thinks quickly when she puts her mind to something.

"It has to be a teacher!"

What the hell am I going to tell her now?!

You're silent for a moment as you try to figure out your way out of the lie, but it only serves to make Nobara believe that she's hit the nail right on the head with her guess.

"I knew it!" she gasps.

This has gone way too far. You stand up and place your hands on your hips as you look down at her. If you're going to lie then you're going to lie well. Besides, it's not like she's going to confront any of the teachers about it anyway, especially since it would mean getting you and a teacher expelled.

"Fine," you say with a proud smile creeping up the corner of your lips. "It was Gojo, but don't tell anyone, 'kay? It was just a one time thing anyway."

Nobara covers her mouth and stares at you, shaking her head. She's quiet until she lowers her hands and you find her mouth wide open.

"Shut. Up."

"Yep," you nod. "I happened to see him over break one day and one thing led to another, but it really wasn't a big deal, you know..."

"Oh my god, details! I need details, Y/N!"

"Well, we were at a beach," you hum as you begin to spin your web of lies bigger and bigger.

"Yeah..." she buzzes.

"And we went into the water together..." you continue slowly.

"Yeahhhh."

"And I got a cramp from swimming 'cause we swam so far out-"

"Yeahhhh-"

"Will you stop saying 'yeah'?!" you squeak, the noise getting on your nerves as you try so hard to keep up your lie.

"Sorry," she giggles. "Continue."

"Well he held me close and then asked if he could kiss me," you tell her as you begin to feel like shit for concocting such a bullshit lie. You just hope to God she'll forget about it by tomorrow.

"What did you say back?" she asks. "Tell me exactly what you said!"

"I said yes," you smile, "and then he kissed me softly."

A dreamy sigh escapes your lips as you begin to wrongfully fantasize over your lie that's beginning to seduce you.

"And..."

"And one thing turned to the next..."

"And you fucked in the water?!" she gasps.

You feel so disgusted by yourself as you let your head move up and down. "In the water."

"Oh my god, I can't even believe you did that!" she grins.

Well, probably because it's a horrible lie...

"Yeah," you laugh awkwardly, "but shhh, I don't want anyone finding out about it, okay?"

'Cause if it gets around to any of the teachers, I'll be in deep shit.

Just as you speak, your door creaks open just a small bit enough for you to see Mai poking the door open and crossing her arms as she stands in your entryway.

"Yo," she nods when the two of you notice her standing there coolly, "I had to stop by to fill out some forms and Yaga asked me to help you losers with your moving in..." But then she smirks, and your lips immediately drop into a frown, stomach sinking instantly. "But damn, I wasn't expecting to hear that!"

Your whole body freezes like ice as you stare back at her slack-jawed. She's going to tell everyone. What the hell are you going to do?!

"Fuck off, Mai!" Nobara shouts in your defense. "This isn't any of your business!"

"I think the higher-ups would like to know if one of their employees is having an inappropriate relationship with their students," she scoffs and turns around to walk away.

You and Nobara exchange the same nervous look, except your stomach is even more in knots because you know that nothing Mai overheard you say was true. The two of you then rush right out of your room, only to stop short when you see Mai standing right in front of Itadori and Fushiguro.
