Choices of Past and Present

Stan was just finishing up his homework the evening after school. Although it was after the first day, his only complaint was that it was on the same night his mother was going out again. He learned this from eavesdropping on Natalya and his mother. And Rox was going to pick Audrey up at 6. It was 5 minutes till 6 and Stan tried to hurry up. At long last, he was finished. He put his homework up and got ready for the night.

And his timing could never be better as the doorbell rang. Stan got out of his room and stayed hidden as Audrey opened the door and there in front of her was Rox, Stan's mother's date. Stan was finally able to hear while trying to stay out of trouble.

"Rox! You're early!" Audrey smiled.

"I know." Rox said. "But I figured we get there early anyway. After all, early bird gets the worm."

Audrey chuckled. "True. Um, can you wait for me in the car? I have to take care of something real quick."

"Sure." Rox then kissed her on the lips. Stan felt disgusted by this. Granted he was in love with Loona, but seeing his mom dating a stranger without his knowledge is just wrong. Stan hurried back to his room just in time before Audrey entered.

"Stan?"

"Yes mom?" Stan asked.

"I'm gonna be out doing errands again." Audrey said. "Are you sure you're ok here by yourself? I can ask Natalya."

"No thanks." Stan replaied. "I'm not a kid anymore. Besides, I know how to defend myself."

"Ok. What about homework?"

"Finished."

"Already?"

"Yep. So I can um play on the switch."

"Ok." Audrey then gave Stan a hug. "Goodnight son."

"Goodnight mom." Stan returned the hug. Audrey then sets off to Rox's car.

Stan then made sure the doors and windows were both locked before he went to the back and locked it with his spare key given to him just in case he's locked out of the house. After getting his bike out of the shed, he sets off to follow the car without getting seen. He even had to turn his bike light off just to avoid being seen. It was dangerous, but he made sure to stay clear and safe. He needed to see what Rox truly is and protect his mother at any cost.

Neo was outside taking the trash out after he was finished with his homework. While taking it out, Andrew Derick, his legal guardian, was outside admiring the sky as it was starting to darken to make way for the night. It was so relaxing after a long hard day.

Neo saw a couple walking by holding hands. That gave him a reminder on what he wanted to ask. So after the trash was out, he sat next to Andrew.

"Master Derick?" Neo asked.

"What's up squirt?" Andrew asked.

Neo was about to tell him not to call him squirt, but refrained himself. "You said you fell in love once before. Right? What ever happened?"

Andrew looked at Neo the moment he brought that up, looking surprised. "What brought that up?"

Neo wanted to tell him about Stan's mother going on a date. But after school, Stan asked him not to tell anyone just yet until he learns more about Rox. So he needed to bring something else up. He didn't like lying to his guardian, but he had no other choice. Then he remembered the rest of their talk at school and so decided to tell the truth partially. "My friends asked if you ever had any love interest. I told the you had once, but you never told me the rest. So I wanted to know. Who was your lover?"
