Charlie grunts as she pulls herself up again and again on the pullup bar. It's late, or early, depending on how you look at it. Her arms burn, she's been doing this for what seems like hours. She mutters and talks to herself as she works, every time her chin rises above the bar she counts. 178, 179, 180."Charlie?"
She doesn't hear her wife's calls, she just keeps pushing herself. Charlie doesn't even notice her wife is awake until Addison lays a hand on her arm and scares her. She drops down and lets out a breath.
"I couldn't sleep." She murmurs, wiping the sweat from her forehead with her arm. "I can't, not since..." She trails off, it had been just over a week since the hospital shooting and it had taken a toll on both of them.
"I know." Addison rests a comforting hand on Charlie's arm. "I don't sleep much either." Charlie just smiles and leans down, and rests her head on her wife's chest. Addison presses a kiss to the crown and leans her chin on Charlie's head. They stand there for a few moments, just enjoying being with each other. Addison lifts Charlie's head and cups her face. "Come back to bed, darling." Charlie nods and they get back into bed together.
They lay tangled in each other. Charlie turns into her wife, resting her head on her neck and lays an arm across her stomach. Addison runs her fingers over Charlie's back, tracing the bullet scar on her shoulder. They lay like that in silence until the sun rises and Clark comes charging into their room and jumps on the bed.
"I don't wanna go to school today." He says, laying in between them on their bed. "I wanna stay here with Pablo and Klaus."
"Clark, you need to go to school." Addison smiles and sits up in bed, running her fingers through his hair. He just groans and dramatically flops an arm over his eyes.
"I'm old enough to be here by myself!"
"No, you're not. You're 13, Clark."
"Exactly, I'm old enough." He says, looking between them both. Charlie rolls her eyes and gets out of bed, pulling on Addison's grey Yale hoodie that was laying over the end of the bed. She pulls it down and stares at her wife and her son. This was her little family.
"What?" Addison says as Clark leans on her side, Addison wraps an arm around him combing gently through his hair.
"Nothing, I just...I never thought I would have this." Charlie smiles, she just stands there for a moment basking in the silence with her family.
"Can you feed me now? Clark says and stands on the bed, jumping onto Charlie, she catches him and he clambers onto her back.
"What does the monster want for breakfast?" She says as Clark rests his head on her shoulder.
Addison listens intently as they walk downstairs discussing what to have, she smiles and thinks of her little family.
