"Oh fuck." Emily wispered quietly.
"Whats going on in here?" I asked no one in particular as I stepped from around Emily. Mum was inbetween Dad and a strange man, looking as though she was trying to get them to stop fighting. Grandma Ivy was behind Dad looking furious and Nana was standing off to the side holding a glass of clear liquid. Everyone turned instantly and looked at our direction.
"Cameron leave!" My Mother shouted at me. Dad stepped back and looked at me with a crooked smile.
"Here's the barstard child now!" My father screamed as he looked at me with disgust.
"What the fuck did you just say?" Edward said from behind me. I turned around and saw he was with Ethan and Jack. What is Jack doing here?
"Edward, be a good boy and stay out of it." Grandma Ivy said from behind Dad.
"Don't tell him what to do! Dad, what did you just say?" Ethan asked angrily as he stood to my right, next to Edward. Emily had gone and stood with Nana while looking guilty. What was she guilty for?
"I said, 'HERE'S THE BARSTARD CHILD NOW!" Dad screamed as he pointed at me, Mum turned towards Dad and slapped him sharply across the face. What did he mean barstard child? I looked around the room and the kitchen and waiting staff had scattered into the kitchen as I couldn't see them any more. The strange man stood away from Mum and Dad and looked down at the floor studying it carefully. Emily and Nana had their hands intertwined and looked at me sorrowfully. Ethan, Edward and Jack stared at me in confusion. Heck, I was confused.
I took a deep breath and asked, "What are you talking about?"
"You are not my child! You are your Mothers illegitimate child! You are a barstard child! Do you understand?" Dad spat venomously. I watched in shock as Mum raised her hand again and went to strike Dad's face. "I wish you would, woman!" Dad grit out as he grabbed her hand that was inches away from hitting him. Edward ran over and pulled Mum's hand away from Dad's grip while Ethan pushed Dad away from Mum. I couldn't breath. My father, is not my father. The guy I've called Dad for twenty-six years is infact just a guy named Craig. My parents lied to me, or should I say parent. I'm so confused. Tears clouded my vision and I couldn't grasp the situation that ensued right before my eyes. There was yelling and screaming and I couldn't think clearly.
"I want an explanation." I said in a small voice. Everyone just needed to shut up. Why wont they shut up?
"SHUT UP!" Caz screamed from behind me. Was she there the whole time? "Mother, I think you have some explaining to do!" She looked angry as she stood away from me off to the side. Daniel stood next her looking angry also.
Everyone went silent and looked at Mum waiting for an expanation. She shuffled her feet before turning directly towards me and lifting her eyes to meet mine. "I was in a dark place." She all but whispered. "I was a young wife and Mum, the boys were three and my husband was always working. I had to find something to do to fill in my day so I took yoga classes and I met a man." She paused to wipe the tears that had slid down her face without breaking eye contact. "Long story short I had an affair and later, I found out I was pregnant. I could never lie to your fa-, to Craig and so I told him the truth. He forgave me and decided to raise you as his own. I am so sorry, baby girl. I was going to tell you when you were old enough to understand but I could never find the right time...or the courage." Everyone was silent and all I could hear was the pounding of my heart in my ears. It took me a while to process everything and just the thought of Ethan, Edward and Caz knowning the truth before me was killing me on the inside.
"Who knew?" I asked with a straight face and a monotonous voice. She looked down at her hands before she looked around to everyone around her. Her eyes landed on the mystery man that was standing off to the side and instantly everything clicked. He was my father.
"Nana. Ivy. Craig. Emily and Eric." She paused dramatically after each name and looked at each person directly. So, my biological fathers name was Eric. Wait, did I hear right? Did she say Emily? My head whipped so fast to the direction of Emily, that I was sure I had whiplash. I knew I had heard correctly when Emily looked at me through sorrowful and regretful eyes.
"Emily. No." I whined as I crouched over with my hands on my knees, trying to breath while processing everything. I felt a hand on my back and looked up to see Jack staring at me in concern; I pushed his hands away and he stepped away from me. I don't want sympathy, let alone from him. My chest tightened as my heart constriced in pain but I had to know all truths.
"Cameron, I'm sorry. I wanted to tell you, I did, but I made a promise to Aunt Martha that I wouldn't tell you. I dropped hints all the time hoping you would pick up on them. I'm so sorry, Cameron. I was just trying to protect you." Emily cried, as I stared at the ground hoping it would open up and swallow me whole. Emily lied to me. She was suppose to have my back, she was my cousin and cousins don't keep secrets this big from each other, god dammit. I stood up and looked at her with a straight face.
"Well thats real funny, 'cause I don't feel protected." I stated simply. I looked around to everybody and my chest hurt even more when I saw Daniel trying to comfort Caz who was crying with a hand across her mouth. Her wedding day is now offically ruined.
"Cameron say something." My mum said with a croaky voice.
"What do you want me to say?" I said evenly.
"Tell me what your feeling, please!" My mother begged desperately as though me telling her how I feel would help.
"What I'm feeling? Let me see, I feel hurt." My eyes glazed over and I took a deep breath to steady my anger, I'll be damned if anyone in this room sees me cry. "I feel betrayed. I feel hate, matter of fact, I hate you. I hate that you didn't tell me the truth and I especially hate that you lied to me for 26, fucking years, you poor excuse for a human being! I hate, how much of a dissapointment you are and the fact that you are dressed up as my mother embarrasses me. YOU disgust me." The room had gone quiet and awfully cold.
"Hey!" Craig growled. After everything, he still defended his wife like she was made of gold.
"Excuse me?" I spat. "You don't get to talk, you pathetic excuse of a man. Look at you! Defending her like shes worth the shit on my shoes. You, you piece of shit, you abused me. You abused me emotionally and mentally for 26 years, and all because you hated yourself for staying with that whore!"
"Cameron!" Nana ground out. I looked at her but I had no time to fear her death stare.
I turned back to Craig and I let him know exsactly how I felt about him. "You hated the fact that you let your heart influence your mind. No matter how much I tried to get you to love me, even just a little, you would throw it in my face. You belittled me, you made me feel worthless, and my mother was too consumed with you and herself too never notice my pain. I would've had a much easier childhood if you had just told me you could never love me the same way you love Caz. You all, make me sick." I stared at Mum and then back at Craig. "Other than obivous reasons, do you want to know why else I hate you? You've...broken me."
With that someone turned on the faucet and I broke down crying. It was the emotional pain of today, this weekend and my whole fucking life, coming out all at once.
Through my tears I had to let them know, that I didn't want either of them in my life anymore. I looked up and saw they were both crying but I had no sympathy for them. "I want nothing more to do with either of you. As far as I'm concerned you are dead to me. Contact me or come anywhere near me and I will send you both straight to hell. Remember, I have a gun." And with that I stumbled out of the building and ran back to Craigs house to get my car. I'm going home.
