'Jack, why do you keep calling me beautiful?' I asked a nervous looking Jack. His cheeks shone rosy red as my blunt question made him feel awkward. He looked down to the ground as though he was contemplating what to say to me.
'Its because you are beautiful.' A smile spread wide across my face as I ran into the open arms of Jack. I looked up into his soulful light-brown eyes and marveled in the way he looked down at me with complete adoration.
"Ugh! What was that?!" I screamed as I felt the cold water drip down my face. I sat up instantaneously and looked up to see Caz smirking down at me.
"Were you having a dirty dream about Jack?" Caz asked, grinning.
"What? NO!"
"You kept saying his name and you were making weird kissing faces. If you want I could hook you two up." Caz said tauntingly.
"I was not making weird kissing faces! Whats the time?" I asked while rubbing sleep away from my eyes.
"Its 5.30am." Caz said casually like getting up at 5.30 in the morning was normal.
"Caz! Why are you up? You have to get rest, for tonight." I said while wiggling my eyebrows.
"Shut up! I couldn't sleep! Its my wedding day. Thank god my swollen ankle has gone down! But, I keep thinking something is going to go wrong. Did you know that it was raining at 2am this morning? It wasn't a light rain either, it was pissing down harder than you can imagine. I just want this day to be perfect." Caz grumbled. She flopped down next to me and rested her hands against her forehead. She blew out her cheeks and sighed loudly.
"No, I didn't hear it raining due to the fact I was trying to get my beauty sleep." I said sarcastically while staring at her pointedly. "And it will! You just need to relax and think about that beautiful man you are going to marry. Remember you is kind, you is smart, you is impor-"
"Okay Aibileen." We both giggled at one of our favourite lines from the Help. She took several deep breaths as she visibly tried to relax. "Its not working!"
"Oh my goodness!"
"Oh my goodness?" Caz said as she narrowed her eyes at me.
"What? I've been thinking I should cut down my swearing. I need to get in a good place with Jesus if he's going to gift me with an exstact replica of Christiano Ronaldo as a husband" I stated definantly. "Come on, why dont we go to the lookout? We can watch the sunrise and wait for everyone else to wake up from their luxurious sleeps. You can make a flask of coffee and because I'm the best sister in the world you could add the biggest drop of whiskey to brighten up such a joyous day."
"YES! Lets go right now! Get up! That is the best idea you've ever had!" She jumped up from the bed and ran to the door before turning quickly on her heel. "No whiskey though! You are the maid-of-honour, I need you to be at your very best." She raced out the door with quiet feet not wanting to disturb the other sleeping bridesmaids.
I rolled my eyes and sunk back into my plush pillows, my head started to pound and I now regretted slipping the vodka bottle under my coat when Caz, Georgia, Sarah, Emily and I went to the lookout lastnight. I thought it would be fun. It seemed to me that one champagne bottle was not a suffiencent amount of alcohol for just the five of us. Before I knew it I had whipped out the Vodka and we had 30 more toasts about happiness. I swung my legs over the side of my childhood bed and went to stand up. The room was spinning as I stood with one hand pressed hard against my temple and another grabbing on to the nearest wall for dear life. You would think from my University days I would be able to establish my alcohol limits but I was surely mistaken. I graduated from University with a Bacherlor of Laws but soon discovered that I wanted to be a police woman which still to this day pisses my Dad off. Its like my brain purposely gave me false hope stating that I could handle that one more drink or one more shot. My brain was a liar and my liver despised him for it.
I was standing in the same spot before Caz came in holding a large glass of water. She pushed the water in my face and handed me two asprin. "You read my mind!" I said before I shoved the asprin in my mouth and gulped down the whole glass of water.
"Right lets go!" Caz said excitedly as she pulled my hand to the direction of the door.
The cold morning air whipped violently in my face as Caz drove the quad bike to the look out. She was going unbearbly fast as I held onto her for dear life. Soon enough we had reached the top of the look out and she had turned the bike off and laid out a picnic blanket across the grass. I sat down and looked out to the ocean and smiled. The sky was slightly dark as it was daylight savings and the sky was littered with white clouds. Sunrise was going to start any minute now. Caz handed me a steaming cup of hot coffee and I took it greatfully. We sat in silence appreciating the view in front of us and enojoying the comfortable silence that had washed over us.
"Do you think Mum and Aunty Debra came up here before Mum's wedding day?" Caz asked before taking a sip of her coffee.
"Yeah, maybe. Although I don't think Aunty Debra likes walking up hills much, remember they didn't have quad bikes back in the day." We looked at eachother and giggled at the thought of Aunty Debra, who was a constant moaner about everything, walking up hill just to get to a lookout.
"Do you think you will ever find the one?" Caz asked as she blew steam off the top of her cup. I stared at her not really knowing what to say. It's a question I would ask myself constantly in the past but now that I've had many failed relationships including a failed engagement, I never thought about finding the infamous one. Whoever he was, he was unattainable from my point-of-view. Maybe I would just be alone for the rest of my life, I already have pets. I physically shuddered at the thought of being alone for my whole life. I looked back at Caz and saw she was still staring at me intently waiting for a reply.
"I fucken hope so!" We both burst into loud laughing fits. Well there goes my 'good place with Jesus'. I tried I really did. We had finally calmed down and looked at eachother and smiled knowingly. We knew that no matter where in life either one of us ended up, we would always have eachothers backs no matter what. Before long the sun had showed its beautiful face and I revelled in the warmth it provided me. We were both silent before we looked at eachother. I raised my coffee cup and she did the same.
"To being sisters." I said.
"To being sisters." She said back.
