Prologue-Flames

I'm left with nothing more than ashes
Falling to the ground like snowflakes
I  almost wish we never happened
(Mod Sun feat. Avril Lavigne-Flames)

Clarke slowly opened her eyes, not entirely sure she wanted to wake up. She stretched out her own hand, but immediately recoiled it. The mattress was so cold. She choked a scream and pressed her face against the pillow. How many days had she been like this? By now she had lost count. She closed her eyes again, seeking comfort in her own memories. Fragments of memories, fragments of instants followed one another in her mind. It was all she could hold onto now. All she had left.

"Hey, you must be the new one. Clarke Griffin, nice to meet you.". The girl in front of her stretched her own arm and shyly shook her hand, a gesture that filled her heart with tenderness.

"Lex It's an honor to be able to work alongside you.". Clarke peered at her, dwelling on her eyes. They were incredibly green and deep, a corner of the world, of an universe that she wanted to know to the end.

"Wallace made me watch your casting, let me tell you that I am the one who has to feel honored, you're incredible.". Lexa shrugged, clearly embarrassed because of that compliment. "You're gonna feel great here, the cast of Arkadia is special.".

Yeah, special. Lex was special, that was the truth. Clarke turned around in bed and curled up into the blankets. She wanted to cry, but she had no more tears to shed. The pain was too much. The emptiness she felt was too much. Everything was too much.

"And stooop. Perfect girls, you have exceptional chemistry."

"Thank you, Mr. Wallace" Lexa replied, with a smile. Cage Wallace, the series' showrunner, was famous for never losing his composure that much and a compliment from him was more unique than rare. Clarke turned to look at Lexa. She was younger than herself and, despite playing a very strong and determined character in the series, in real life she was definitely much more reserved and shy.

"Nice work today." she told her, more to strike up a conversation than more. Lexa was always so reserved, so closed. Clarke just wanted to get to know her better. She needed it.

"Yes, I am very happy. This season will be great." the younger woman answered. Clarke smiled at her, letting their eyes meet. Instinctively, Lexa bowed her gaze, but the blonde made her lift it.

"Tonight the others and I are going out, do you want to join us?" Clarke proposed, although Lexa suspected she wanted to tell her something else.

"I... well, so..."

"Come on, you never go out with us. I mean, it can be an opportunity to bond more, even in a working perspective it can be useful.". It wasn't Clarke talking. The two actresses turned around. In front of them a dark-haired girl of clear Latin origin stared at them, her hands resting at her hips.

"Rae, don't put pressure on her." Clarke scolded her colleague and friend, glancing at her. Raven rolled her eyes and shook her head.

"Oh, come on Woods." she insisted. Lexa sighed, turning to Clarke firs and then Raven.

"I'd like to, but I can't. I already have plans." she said, finally.

"Plans? And with whom? With your boyfriend?". At those words Lexa tensed up. She rubbed her own neck, clearly uncomfortable.
