Lexa woke up suddenly. She took the alarm clock from the bedside table and looked at the time.
"Shit!" she swore, jumping out of bed. She ran to Aden and Adria's room, throwing open the door.
"Lexa, what the..."
"Aden, get ready! It's late!" the actress exclaimed, as she took Adria by the hand and walked her to the bathroom. Lexa was helping the little girl to wash herself and get dressed, when Ethan's desperate cry caused her to jolt.
"Wait here." she recommended to Adria and then ran to his room. Ethan was in his crib crying at the top of his lungs. Lexa immediately picked him up and started cradling him, praying with all her heart that he would have calmed down.
"Shhh, I've got you. I've got you. Please stop crying." she whispered to him, with no results.
"Auntie Lexa! "she heard Adria call her from the bathroom.
"Wait a moment Adria, I'm coming!" she replied, as she tried to calm Ethan. However, the little girl's insistence forced her to come to her rescue. What was in front of her caused her to pale. Adria must have played with the shower head because there was water everywhere.
"Ops." that was all the girl said. Lexa would have liked to get mad, but she didn't have the strength to do it. Ethan kept crying in her arms like a madman, probably because of hunger and the need to be changed. Then, the phone rang. Lexa wanted to scream.
"Hold him, please." she pleaded Aden, giving Ethan in his arms.
"But ..." the boy tried to protest, but Lexa was already in the kitchen. The phone kept ringing nonstop.
"Hello?" the actress answered the phone, resisting the temptation to throw it against the wall.
"Lexa! Where the hell are you?". The actress rolled her eyes. Titus, her agent, just what she needed.
"I had a mishap and..."
"Don't start, Lexa. We have been waiting for you for half an hour for the renewal of the contract.". Lexa wanted to crash her head against the wall. She had completely forgotten about the contract renewal for the series she was filming. Natblida, the story of a girl with black blood and supernatural powers, forced to fight entire armies of zombies. Yeah, definitely not a great series.
"Yes, well, I ... "
"Just hurry up!" Titus intimated. "And no toddlers!". Lexa couldn't reply. Her agent had shut the phone, making any attempt to reply futile. The actress could feel the tears coming out, despite her effort to drive them back. She looked at the calendar. Friday 25th, Anya wasn't available that day, Costia had left for the umpteenth work event and Adria's excessive vivacity had caused the firing of the fourth nanny in eight days. Lexa sighed. She felt trapped. She certainly hadn't asked to have three brats in her house. She shook her head. She had never called them that way and the fact the she had thought certain things about them caused her to feel so ashamed.
"Lexa.". The actress turned around. Aden was staring at her with his hazel eyes, Ethan in his arms.
"We need to change him, but I don't know how to do it.". Lexa nodded and gestured him to follow her. The bathroom was still half flooded, but she decided to ignore it and change Ethan. She took off his diaper and washed him, she then put him on the changing table. The child looked finally happy to see her. He laughed among a thousand whimpers and gurgles and Lexa smiled back at him.
