Abby Griffin had never hated anyone. Working in Polis had taught her to put aside any prejudice and help anyone in need. Anyone who knew her described her as a helpful person, always kind to everyone. Yet, when she saw Lexa in front of her, Abby had to appeal to all her strength not to kick her out of the hospital. She certainly couldn't forget all the pain her daughter had felt in the last three years because of her.
"Mom, how is she?" Clarke asked her, awakening her from her thoughts. Behind her, Lexa bowed her head, probably out of shame. Abby's hostility to her was more than obvious, after all.
"She's fine, the surgery was perfectly successful. As I've already told the social worker, she had glass fragments stuck in her hip. We managed to remove everything and clean the wounds." the doctor explained.
"Wait, is Sydney here?" Lexa interrupted her. Abby glared at her. She couldn't believe of everything she had said, the actress had focused only on that useless detail. She just couldn't understand what Clarke could see in her.
"Sorry, I... I didn't want to interrupt you." Lexa apologized. Abby frowned. She didn't expect it. She decided to ignore everything and keep going with the explanation.
"I have no idea how she managed to get to Beverly Hills in those conditions. In addition to wounds and abrasions, she has several cracked ribs and a bad cut on her forehead. Some cops found her, at Valley Road. I think she was coming to you Clarke. When I told her what my name was, she told me she knew you and so I called you. I swear, I've never seen anything like this, she must have walked through half of the city.". Clarke and Lexa looked at each other, both with tears in their eyes. The brunette covered her face with her hands, desperately trying not to burst into tears. Clarke hold her to herself and started rocking her, gently.
"It's my fault, all my fault." Lexa kept saying, amid sobs.
"No Lex, that's not true." Clarke tried to reassure her. Abby watched that scene, uncomfortable. She had experienced similar situations hundreds of times, but seeing her daughter being personally involved had a strange effect on her. And then, there was Lexa. Maybe she was wrong about her, she seemed to care a lot about that girl. She shook her head. Maybe she was just afraid of the consequences, who knows.
"Can we see her?" Clarke asked. Abby nodded.
"Yes, this way." she answered, gesturing them to follow her. "Here we are.". Lexa's stomach was in a turmoil. Clarke squeezed her hand to give her courage and told her to enter the room. Madi was still asleep and Lexa felt her heart clench in her chest seeing her like this. Sitting next to the bed, Diana Sidney was reading a book, as if nothing had happened. Lexa thought about every time Anya had begged her to take Madi with her. She had been a coward, that was the truth.
"Woods, it's a pleasure to see you." the social worker greeted her. "I'm just sorry to meet you like this."
"Where is her mother?" Lexa asked, a lump in her throat. Diana Sidney shrugged.
"Nice question, Woods. We couldn't find her. Her neighbors told us they saw her leave this morning.". Lexa punched the wall. That girl didn't deserve such a treatment, not from her mother.
"As for Gloomy, Ontari's partner, he too vanished into thin air. We hope he shows up, but..."
"Are you kidding me? Did you really try to reach that man?" Lexa was out of her mind. She couldn't believe her own ears.
"Of course. What's the problem?". The actress burst out laughing. That woman's carelessness was incredible.
"You don't see it, do you? He's the one who reduced her that way."
"Oh, come on. You too know that Madi often fights with anyone. Moreover, she explicitly stated that she was assaulted by unknown persons." Diana Sidney replied.
