I was pushed to the floor, He was about to punch me but someone grabbed his wrist.
Evan.
"Don't you dare lay a hand on her. Ever." He said looking the most angry I've ever seen him.
And to think that just two weeks ago he didn't even want to be my friend. No one has ever stuck up for me before. Now I had guy sticking up for me against his abusive psychopath dad. When did my life get so... complicated?
I used to be able to go to school with my only friend Callie and get straight A's and then come home and sit in my room alone for hours. Now I'm defending a guy I barely know.
"What the fuck is wrong with you? You know people like you belong in a mental hospital, no wait people like you belong in Jail! What kind of psychopath would hurt his own child? No sane person thats for sure!" I took a deep breath after finishing my rant to see Evan's dad looking at me with nothing but hate in his eyes.
Uh oh.
Never insult a psychopath if you want to live until you're Eighty.
I jumped up which surprised their dad and used the advantage by pulling both the boys out of the door and into Evans car.
Evan jumped into the drivers seat and we were speeding down the street and away from that nuthouse.
I looked over at him and saw that other than a busted lip, black eye, and scratches on his arms, he was okay. I looked back at Alex to see that other than him getting slapped and being emotionally scarred for his life he was also okay.
What a nice way to meet someone's brother, I thought sarcastically.
I'm okay other than the fact that I just saw Evan's dad beat the crap out of him and his little brother emotionally scarred.
Well this was a very eventful day.
It was silent the whole way home, well to my house.
When we got there I told them I just have to make sure its okay with my dad, but it should be okay if they stay here for a couple days until I could report their dad to child services. I guided them to the couch, gave them some of my dad's old clothes and told them I'd be right back.
I called my dad and he answered on the third ring.
"Hello?" He asked.
"Hey Dad, I was just wondering if maybe...well you see.... I have two people here who um, can't stay at their house so I was wondering if they could stay here for a couple days? Just until everything's sorted out." I said hoping he would say it's okay.
"Everything isn't going to get sorted out." I heard a voice behind me say.
I jumped and turned around to face Evan who's face was blank.
"Yeah I guess that's fine, I'll see you tomorrow honey " He said and then hung up.
"Why do you say that?" I asked Evan.
"It's complicated kitty." He said with a sigh.
"Well then uncomplicate it for me! I want to help Evan." I begged.
"Why! You don't even know me! We met like two weeks ago!" He yelled, getting angry all of a sudden.
"Because Evan! I want to be your friend, I want to help you and be there for you!" I yelled back.
"Well who says I need your help?" He yelled and then Alex came into the room.
I backed away when he took a step closer.
He noticed how scared I looked and his eyes softened.
"Kitty... I'm sorry." He said taking a small step forward.
"Evan, we do need her help." Alex said, I almost forgot he was in the room.
Evan took another step closer to me when he noticed I didn't move any farther.
I wasn't scared of him anymore.
"Hey... look at me." He begged.
He walked up to me and lifted my chin so I had to look up at him.
I tried so hard to keep a straight face.
"It's all right Evan I understand." I said smiling at him.
"Oh thank goodness I thought you were going to be mad at me forever." He said laughing slightly.
"Evan I wasn't mad at you, you just... scared me a little." I said and then walked up the stairs.
"I'm going to go get my pajamas on, you guys can change in the bathroom if you want."
I got my other pair of hello kitty pajamas on and headed back down stairs.
"Oh I get why you call her kitty now!" Alex said, sitting beside Evan in some of my dad's old clothes.
"So what movie are we going to watch guys? My dad won't be home until early in the morning and I already called him to let him know you'll be staying here." I told them and then walked over to the movie shelf and looked through the movies.
"I kinda wanna watch 50 first dates again." Evan said, so I pulled it off the middle shelf and put it in.
"Does anyone want popcorn?" I asked standing up.
I didn't give them time to answer because I was already in the kitchen putting one of the bags in the microwave.
If they don't want it I'll eat it.
We watched the movie and by the time it was over it was only nine o'clock.
"We could play a board game?" Alex suggested.
"How about... hide and seek! Alex you can go first." Evan said, Alex looked at him confused but still closed his eyes and started counting.
Evan pulled me up the stairs and pushed me into my room. He came in and shut the door behind him.
Okay I don't know if I should be scared again or...
"Look Annabelle I really am sorry about earlier, I'm just not used to this whole friend concept." He said actually looking guilty.
"I also wanted to know... what's your favorite color?"
"Um... turquoise." I said uncertain.
"Are we playing 20 questions or something?"
"READY OR NOT HERE I COME!" I heard Alex say and then I heard heard footsteps coming up the stairs.
We both shoved into my closet and shut the door.
Needless to say we didn't finish our game of 20 questions.
