You'll know when a person really is you're bestfriend when she's bothering you like hell but you're not the tiniest bit getting nervy.
Well maybe i'm pissed off a little.
A little.
"Harper, please just please!" Lilly begs for the fifth time just this hour.
"Double dates are supposed to be within two couples, if i'll be there i'd just be third wheeling." I explain. I don't want to play gooseberry, besides who in their right mind would want to spend some time looking at her ex and her bestfriend being all lovey dovey? No one? I guess so too.
"You could come with Finn, it's his idea anyway." She nods. "What? Finn's idea?"
She nods again.
God, what is that guy up to now? Yesterday he literally trapped Alec and I alone inside the photobooth. And now he's planned out how my afternoon would be with my ex? What's with him messing with my life?
What a great friend!
"Don't you want some alone-time with him? You know, just you two." I ask.
I'm pretty sure if i was the girlfriend, i wouldn't want other people to join us on dates. I'm the greedy type.
But i'm not the girlfriend. I know.
"I do want some 'alone-time'." She pauses. "But then, you'll also have an alone time all on your own, i wouldn't want my bestfriend to be lonely while i'm enjoying every single second. Look, just because i have a boyfriend doesn't mean i would leave you all alone, i'm not that type of friend." She smiles at me, her blue eyes glimmering.
"Sisters before misters, remember?" She giggles.
"But do you really want me to be there?" I ask slowly.
"By all means." She takes my hands and grins like a cheshire cat that i might even think it already hurts.
And me agreeing with the double date with a single word: "okay" was the reason why the before oxygen-filled air is now filled with awkwardness.
Turns out, Finn wants to have fun playing with the dreary situation i am in. He didn't show up, what a bestfriend!
I am sitting across the table from Lilly and Jake, uttering sweet words to each other like Romeo and Juliet-except the dying part, cross fingers to that.
"Excuse me for a minute." Jake excuses and both me and my bestfriend gave him a sly nod.
Just after Jake was out of sight, a familiar boy walks up to us.
"Alec?" Lilly gasps.
"Oh, hey, have you guys seen Finn?" He asks whilst running his fingers through his blue hair, dishevelling it perfectly.
"Did you just say 'Finn'?" He nods as an answer to my question.
And in an instant my blood is boiling. I know where this is going. That sneaky little boy!
What's with him setting me up with Alec all the time? Now i'm regretting telling him about Jake.
Seconds of awkward flailing silence was enough for Alec to say more.
"I lost a bet, and he says i'm gonna have a blind date with my soulmate."
"That rhymed." I automatically state.
Two scrutinizing pairs of eyes glare at me. "Sorry, i'm just saying." I raise my arms in surrender.
Lilly, however, looks at the both of us suggestively before a corner of her mouth twitches upward to a teasing smirk.
"I'll leave you guys alone. I'm just going to the ladies' room!" She wiggles her eyebrows at us and hurries off, out of the fancy restaurant.
"And here i am thinking that the ladies' room is the other way." I shake my head disapprovingly.
My eyes scan the room and its gaze fell on Alec's blue orbs.
It just came to me how similar he is to Jake. Their face are somehow of the same details and their signature blue eyes, though Alec's eyes are a deeper shade. They have the same face shape. Their defined cheekbones. He reminds me of Jake. A lot.
It wasn't a second before it became a staring contest between Alec and I. His blue eyes staring directly at my green ones.
Though Alec is a friend, i never really had the chance to really know him. All i know is that he is Alec Travis, a handsome gentleman and he's the shy-type, pretty mysterious.
He is a quiet guy, like no other one from our group. Its like he always listens to us but he never told anything about him.
I felt comfortable albeit the awkwardness that was forming. I break my stare when i clear my throat.
"So, Finn also tricked me into this. Persuasing Lilly to make me come to a double date, saying he's the one i'll be coming with; to not showing up and making you come instead." I let out a depraved sigh.
"Well, Finn will always be Finn." He replies.
A single word Finn can really explain the whole situation. Finn's name could be a noun someday, a noun that means trouble and mischief. Yeah.
Alec looks at me, his expression a mixture of nervousness and shyness.
I never knew why he's so timid; when he walks in the room, he grabs most of the female population's attention. No lie.
And unlike any other popular guys his head never grew despite the attention he is always receiving, and i like how he stays like that. How he's so down to earth and how he stays simple.
"Uh... What now?" I uncertainly question out. Wanting to do something, i don't want to spend the rest of my day sitting here and staring at him. That would be creepy and weird.
"Uhm..." He breaths out.
"How 'bout we go there," i point outside the glass pane to a nearby ice skating rink.
"I... Don't know." He gestures to his feet.
A thick bandage wrapped to it. And the thought sinks in. Alec had a foot surgery five weeks ago, due to neoplasma;an overgrowthed tissue.
"But if you really want to go, i won't drag you down." He genuinely smiles, showing his perfectly white teeth.
"Okay." Was all i could say.
