Chapter 4: The Initiation

If someone had been standing at the bottom of the cliff, they would have witnessed the concerning spectacle of dozens of students flying through the air towards a Grimm infested forest. Though, at Beacon Academy, this was a usual Tuesday.

Alex kept his focus ahead as he flew through the air like a bullet from a gun, as many students that had been around him were already descending towards the forest floor. As his velocity began to decrease, Alex held his arms slightly in front of him as his gauntlets began to glow bright. He began to fall back towards the ground. Once the earthy terrain was in view, Alex flipped his body so that his legs were beneath him, before firing two blasts from his gauntlets. The blasts somewhat halted his fall, enough for Alex to tuck and roll out of the impact.

Alex: "Note to self. Speak with Professor Polendina about equipment to better slow a free fall."

Adjusting his jacket and reloading dust into his gauntlets, Alex began to walk into the forest, where he hoped to find the temple that Ozpin had been speaking about.

Meanwhile...

Penny was laughing in excitement as she flew through the air, her arms at her sides with a huge grin on her face. Her eyes were constantly tracking students around her, hoping that one of them would have been Alex. One student caught her attention, as Jaune was tumbling through the air rather ungracefully, several meters below Penny, all while letting out a high pitched scream.

Penny was about to adjust her trajectory to provide assistance, when all of a sudden a javelin came rocketing from out of nowhere, piercing Jaune's hood and pinning him to a large tree. As she flew above the tree that Jaune was pinned to, Penny gave a quick wave while yelling down at the startled guy.

Penny:"HellonicetomeetyouandgoodluckintheinitiationIlookforwardtospeakingwithyouagain!"

Penny deployed her swords and launched them ahead of her, stabbing into several trees. The strings attached to them tightened, slowing her down so that she could grab a tree branch. Her momentum allowed Penny to flip and land on the branch, crouching there for a moment as her swords returned to their sheathed positions.

Penny: "Alex? Are you there? Aaah-eeee!"

Penny's replication of a sloth call caused several small birds to shoot to the sky in fright, but nobody called back to her. Penny let out a quiet sigh, but began to jump from branch to branch, occasionally calling out into the forest as she headed towards the temple.

Meanwhile...

Several smouldering remains of Beowolves were dissolving into smoke as Alex readjusted his overcoat, venting his gauntlets of excess energy as he inspected his surroundings. There had only been a few Grimm, but he could hear the distant sounds of gunfire in the distance from other students. As he resumed walking forward, slipping his hands into his coat pockets as he did, he wondered how Penny was handling this. A smirk came to his face at the mental image of Penny obliterating Grimm, leaving many first years in a state of amazed shock.

Alex's stride came to a halt when he heard something big. Branches were snapping, birds panicking, and a loud hiss suddenly came from behind Alex. He spun around and stood at the ready, as several trees were uprooted as a King Taijitu slithered towards Alex.

The black head instantly lunged at Alex, forcing him to jump backwards as the attack took a chunk out of the ground. Just as his feet touched the ground, the white head attempted to bite Alex from behind, but Alex rolled under the head, causing it to bump heads with the black.

Alex charged his gauntlets and fired two blasts of energy, hitting both heads but causing little damage. Just as the black head of the serpent was about to attack, a razored fan spun out of the brush and slashed across the side of its face.
