I knew something was up the moment I stepped into Aroma.
We were having our usual meet up. Jongin was in a relationship with this Krystal girl but she wasn't here because of some schedule she had to attend. Alanna was sitting beside Eun Sang, and I sat on the other side of her. Yixing sat beside me.
My eyes turned to Sehun and he was frowning at his phone. Baekhyun was busy looking outside. What was with his obsession with the window? I had no idea. Junmyeon was talking to Sana and Xiumin and Chen was laughing with Chanyeol.
"Noona, it's been such a long time since we gathered like this." Jongin grinned. Sunhee was smiling at him, but there was something off with her. What was up? It had been a long time since I last saw her. Like personally talked to her. "You should visit Korea more."
I smiled. "I'll consider it if you decide to arrange a meeting with Krystal next time," I teased and he chuckled, shaking his head.
"She won't visit us much." Kyungsoo who had been silent for the whole time spoke up. "Fei must've things to do back in China." He smiled but it looked secretive. He was on to something.
"But, Noona you can come from time to time," Chanyeol chirped. "With Yixing hyung of course." Even though we were not that close, considering I hardly talked to anyone, but we were well acquainted. His suggestion didn't come as unusual but his little teasing about my relationship did make me want to smack him.
"I-"
"Fei is engaged to someone else."
The conversations, laughter died around us. Alanna looked up at me wide eyed. Suho frowned. Yixing stilled. Everyone else just looked confused. I turned to Kyungsoo. Where did he get this information? He was the last person who searched things on the internet, so how come he saw my engagement news on the Chinese outlets? "What are you talking about?" I asked.
"Fei is like a royalty in China, and she's marrying her prince charming next year." His words were like a knife, calm yet piercing. "I'm sorry Noona. I really thought there was something going on between you and Yixing hyung, but really congratulations."
Kyungsoo knew what he was doing. He just knew but was still going ahead with it. Yixing might be a fool in love, but Kyungsoo wasn't. He wanted everyone to know about my engagement so that members could stop Yixing from pining over me. Good job, Exo DO. Good job.
Baekhyun cleared his throat awkwardly. "I... Congratulations noona," he murmured, smiling. Chanyeol also congratulated me. Alanna stood up and walked out of the room, not giving me a word or question. She and I had started to mend our relationship just last week with a meeting and now this happened. Junmyeon went behind her.
"Did you know." Xiumin turned to the man sitting beside me. "Yixing, I'm asking you something. Did you know?"
He didn't answer, so I did it for himself. "Yixing was present at my engagement," I replied to Xiumin.
"For the fuck's sake, he likes you Fei!" Xiumin snapped, not at me but my lover. "You were with this woman, knowing she wasn't yours? What are you doing? Are you crazy? Fei is fucking engaged!"
"Minseok, calm down." Sana hushed him. "We're no one to judge. Yixing, Fei... You must be startled by the news coming out like this. We'll give you a space."
They all stood up and started leaving one by one. Eun sang stopped by the door and glanced over her shoulder. "Talk to me if you need anything. Okay?"
I nodded. Only three persons remained. I, Yixing and the star of the night Do Kyungsoo. The latter was staring at Yixing as if trying to read his mind. I was not in the room for him. If I didn't know better I would say that he was angry. He wasn't. Kyungsoo was concerned about his group member. The person I had hurt beyond a measure.
"Hoping." Yixing looked up at Kyungsoo. "That's what I was doing. I thought... I thought one day Fei would realize that I'm worth giving a chance to."
"There are only seven months left in her wedding." Kyungsoo closed his eyes. "Do you realise what you're doing to yourself? Is this how you want to feel? Miserable? I had been watching you for a while and knew something was up." His eyes turned to me. "And, I guessed right."
"Kyungsoo." I stared at him. "I know I should have told-"
"You're engaged-"
Yixing stood up. "I... I need to... I need a minute." He walked out on us.
"He's not ready to hear this. Is he?" Kyungsoo shuddered. "If he can't even hear this sentence, that you're engaged, how is he going to handle the wedding news?"
"You could have asked us personally." I stood up. "You didn't have to break the news like this, Kyungsoo. It was uncalled for."
He also stood up and came to me. "The arrangement or whatever you have with my group member even after knowing how much it is hurting him... That is uncalled for, Fei."
Kyungsoo was trying not to get angry at me. I could tell he wanted to say so many things, like how I was a bitch to lead Yixing on, that I was selfish and every other evil thing. I would have accepted every blame though. I was selfish when it came to Yixing. I was a bitch, a spineless person who had no guts to after what I wanted.
"I know you are worried, but still-"
"I don't regret it." Kyungsoo turned around to follow Yixing probably.
"Listen," I said and he stood by the door, not facing me. "I was wrong but you were wrong too. God forbid if you are in a similar situation, I would expose you in front of everyone. I promise."
He didn't reply and disappeared from my view. Sunhee came back with a glass of water. I took it from her and swallowed a few sips. "What's up with you?"
"What do you mean?" Sunhee frowned.
"You look like someone kicked your puppy. Did something happen?" I asked. She stared at me for a long moment and then shook her head. "What was that?"
"You're so oblivious, Fei." She took the glass from my hands. "No wonder your relationship with Yixing turned out to be like this. You're very slow when it comes to human emotions."
I rolled my eyes. "Can you explain in a simple language?"
Sunhee smiled sadly. She patted my shoulder. "Go home, Fei."
"I don't have a home here. I'm staying in a hotel." I grabbed my bag and walked to the door but she didn't let me leave before saying her parting words.
"Home isn't a place, Fei. Someday you'll realize that you broke your home with your own hands. Goodbye."
