I felt a very intense omniscient presence, the moon shone brighter on the little piece of land. I saw the Holy One, he was a large sapphire Chinese like dragon with a faint electric blue glow. Out of habit I ensured I wasn't Soul Wandering, to my relief I wasn't but I was freezing and cold. The Holy One snapped a decaying tree with his draconid hands, making a campfire and breathed a lighning bolt from his mouth, igniting the wood. The warmth and light was welcoming to my near hypothermic body, the dragon nestled near me coiling his long body like a snake.
For some reason, I felt the Holy One was here for more than rescuing me from the North Seas icy cold kelp claws. I spoke my thoughts to the dragon, stuttering from cold and fear, "w-why did y-you s-save me?" The dragons face met mine, his face was covered in blue scales, with white tendrils around the eyes and nostrils. The eyes were a briliant deep blue with slitted pupils, his teeth were the size of my hand with serrated edges, just looking at them indirectly hurt me.Just then I heard the dragon speak, it was unexpectedly high pitched and squealy sort of like he inhaled all the world's helium supply. "There is no Knight ceremony, Marvin is a liar. I am here to tell you to not proceed any further," my ears decieved me, no I didn't want to believe it but Marvin was my spiritual kin. Why would he lie about the ceremony?
The dragon continued, "Marvin was always a Knight, it is not something you earn, it is given to you. I shall take you to my world, this is where you will meet with not just other Knights but the deceased as well."
Was I really dreaming? I pinched my hand, blood spilled yes it was real.A dome of lightning encased the island, it reminded me like the glass around the snowglobe. The difference being that this dome was electrifyingly beautiful, but deadly in an ironic way.
My hair and feathers tingled from the electricity in the air, the dragon roared upwards and just like an elevator, I was shot upwards above the sea, above the low floating clouds then finally I saw a whole city with Knights everywhere.I must've looked like a star struck albeit nervous teenager. A few Knights greeted me, but I was too busy trying to calm myself down, the air wasn't thin here but normal. The sky above was just vast darkness with the biggest moon I'd ever seen, above me was infinite space and below me was my home, Earth.
I was a victim to the amazing views, until I heard someone calling my name. I turned to see no one there or so I thought, looking down I saw a little child Knight that was completely albino and had off-putting but sweet red eyes. He said my name again, "Claire Thomas?" I nodded, he continued "you are here to learn how to make people, from orders of the Holy One." The little Knight gestured me to follow him, I thought we were going to fly but we didn't, because the albino Knight had his wings broken.
Out of care and curiosity I asked, "excuse me, but what happened to your wings?" The Knight rudely replied, "battle accident, I can tell you were human. Just shut up and follow me!"Clearly this Knight was angry, so I shut up and followed him. We walked to a small office building, that was covered in glass. It looked exactly like the buildibgs at home, the whole city looked like an ethereal version of London but smaller.
We entered through the double doors, only to see a young female Knight behind the desk. The receptionist Knight had shimmering black hair, and a kind voice that happily asked me, "are you Olivers sister?" I replied with a tremor, "yes, is he here?" The receptinist smiled saying "he's here alright, the Holy One has given him life to become a Knight."My knees buckled, I hyperventilated shaking with fear and excitement, Oliver's alive, my brother was here. How I yearned to hug him again, no words could describe how badly I mourned his death.
I got up and followed the albino Knight to a real elevator, we ascended to the top of the building. It wasn't tall but when the doors opened, that's when I saw my brother.
It had been years since I last saw Oliver, he looked like he never aged, he had shaggy black hair, grey eyes and a slim physique with sky blue wings. I approached him, ignoring the little albino Knight. Oliver looked at me and smiled, we both hugged each other and sobbed into our shoulders. I felt his pulse against my chest, yes he was truly alive, whatever the Holy One did was truly a miracle. It was three years ago when Oliver died in a fatal car crash, he died while sharing a ride with a friend under the use of LSD and heroin. The police concluded that Oliver died first with his friend was pronounced dead when the police arrived, but from drug overdose instead of the crash.
I was only fifteen back then, Oliver was eighteen and now we were both the same age.
We both let each other go from the hug, with blotchy faces and the other Knights staring, we didn't give a shit about others for the moment.Oliver spoke first, his voice was the same I remembered, deep and warm. "Oh Claire, how I've missed you is impossible to say. You're a Knight too as well, it's too perfect to see you here."
I held in the tears, shakily saying, "how are you alive? I was at your funeral, I mourned for you. Why are you a Knight?"
Oliver smiled and guided us to a small break room with plush orange couches. We both sat down and I explained everything to my brother, his face was calm and he listened to every word.
When I got to the part about Marvin being shot dead he looked relieved and said, "good thing he's dead, I never liked the guy, based on what other Knights told me. I'm just glad that he was baninished to Knight City by the creator of Earth."Feeling curious by Oliver's remark, I asked "who is the creator of Earth? I thought the Holy One was the main god of Earth." Oliver chuckled, replying "no the Holy One just does Knights and humans. He was made by the creator of Earth. The creator of Earth among humans is simply known as God, but us Knights call him The Maker."
