Chapter Twenty . . . Dark
Karen's POV
I don't remember how I got here, or even where I was for that matter. The room was dark and I couldn't make out any object in front of me. My head hurt, my arms and feet were bound, and I believe the wet substance dripping down my arm was blood from a wound on my head.
Where was I?
I barely remembered what happened.
All I remember was talking to Garrett and then I was here.
"D-Derek?" I called weakly.
Suddenly a sliding heavy metal door opened letting light in.
"BOSS!" The strange man yelled, making me flinch.
My head was hurting like a bitch.
Suddenly heavy footsteps stomped closer and closer to the dark room I was in, and when the lights flicked on I was face to face with my worse enemy.
"Max." I said softly.
I felt my restricted hands begin to shake.
"Hello Darling, how are you?" He asked sarcastically as he took a step towards me.
"Well, I would be better if I wasn't here."
"I'm sorry to hear that my dear wife, but maybe I can do something to make you more comfortable?" He offered arching an eyebrow.
He pulled a stool towards me while letting it screech across the floor, and that's when I took in the interior of the place. It must of been a hospital at one point. The walls were a puke green color with no windows, and there was beds and monitors lined across the walls with dirty white curtains separating them. I looked down and saw I was hooked to a metal chair by silver handcuffs that were making my wrists bleed.
"How about you tell me where our son is and I will uncuff you."
My head shot up. "He was never your son."
My head whipped to the side from his hand, my face stinging horribly. It was like he smacked the memories of him back in my head.
"I would watch your tongue my dear. Do you not see the predicament you are in right now? Yet, you still have the urge to talk back."
I didn't say anything and instead kept my head down. I listened as he sighed before grasping my face harshly and turning it towards him.
"You are not making this easy on yourself." He hissed, but I remained silent.
Why should I give him the satisfaction of my words? He dropped my face after giving it a tight squeeze.
"Here's the deal. You tell me where our son is and I'll let you go. You remain as stubborn as you've been then you stay here and be punished." He paused with a sick grin on his face. "You remember those days don't you? I believe that's how our son was created."
I felt my eyes burn with tears, but I refused to let them fall. He waited a moment, just staring at me, before standing up and clasping his hands together.
"Fine, you don't want to talk, then you will sit here. I'll be back in an hour to try again."
"Derek will find me by then." I told him.
He nodded.
"Sure he will Karen, you just keep telling yourself that."
He walked out while whistling a fearful tune before shutting the door behind him, once again leaving me in the dark.

Derek's POV
Dylan and I sat at the kitchen table trying to figure out how the bastard got into the house and so far we had no idea.
"He had to of picked the lock." Dylan said, but I shook my head.
"There's no way in hell he picked the lock because I had the chain hooked."
Dylan shrugged.
"I don't know how else then. Unless Karen let him in."
I ran my fingers through my hair.
"Yeah, but if she answered the door why lock me in the bathroom. Actually why do that at all? Why not kill me?" I asked outloud.
"He wants Garrett right?"
I nodded. "He's not going to get him though."
"Agreed, but Karen isn't going to give him up no matter how much she goes through, but he wants to go through you if he had to."
I smacked the table in front of me.
"He's fucking using me?"
"Derek what if it was Karen or Garrett. Who would you choose?" Dylan asked the question that made my eyes widen.
"That's a low thought."
"Even for a madman whose out there killing people?" He asked in a thoughtful tone, and I knew he was right.
The man was crazy to not only mess with me but what was mine. I crossed my arms and looked out the window trying to think of a way to get Karen back and quickly before I went crazy. That's when I saw it. The black car sitting across the street.
"Dylan." I called.
He looked at me and I waved him over.
"What?" He looked out the window and saw the car too. "Do you want me to talk to him?"
"I have a feeling he's not going to talk." I answered.
"Do you think he's with Max?" Dylan asked and I nodded.
"What do we do?" I asked.
Dylan took a minute to think about it.
"I'll scare him off and you follow him."
I nodded and went to turn, but he quickly stopped me.
"Wherever he leads you. You don't get out of your car until I get there. You understand?"
"Are you telling me this as a cop or my brother?" I asked trying to be sarcastic.
"Both, and I'm not afraid to arrest you." He warned. "Now, get in your car, and stay close but as far away as possible."
With that being said we both walked outside. Me going to my car and he going to the strange black vehicle, but as Dylan walked up, the car started and quickly drove away and squealing his tires in the process. I started up my car and followed after him, trying not to be conspicuous in the process.
Here I come Karen, here I come.
