Chapter Sixteen . . . When The Mind Believes

Karen's POV

It's been three days since I slept for a decent amount of time, and it was starting to take me over. The dreams were becoming so real, and so lifelike, that I decide I'd rather stay awake then dream the horrid dreams.

"Karen, you have to get some rest." Riley said softly.

Dylan was at the house discussing information with Derek about Max, and Riley decided to tag along to keep me  company.

"I'm fine. I'm just a little tired." I yawned as I poured another cup of coffee.

I walked over to the kitchen table and sat down next to Riley who was giving me a look of concern.

"Don't look at me like that."
She gently rubbed her belly.

"I can look at you whatever way I want. I'm pregnant."

"So because you're pregnant you can do anything you want, huh?" I chuckled. "How's that been going?"
She grinned and looked down at her cup of juice.

"Pretty well."
There was a certain glwo to her and it wasn't just from her pregnancy.

"Ew. I don't want to talk about you and Dylan's sex life."

"You brought it up."

"Yeah well I'm dismissing it all together."

I took a swig of my coffee as Riley tapped her nails against the table.

"I think we need to go out."

"We?" I asked as I propped my head in my hand.

"Yes, we, especially you. Let's go shopping!"

I groaned and fully laid my head on the table.

"I hate shopping!"

"Tough." She got up out of her seat.

"Oh Dylan!" Riley called.

Not even a full second went by and Dylan was at her side.

"Yeah, are you alright?" He asked concerned.

"I'm fine. We were just wondering if you boys wanted to go shopping?"

"Shopping?" I heard the sexiest voice ask.

I turned my head and saw Derek propped up against the door frame with a confused look on his face.

"You want to go shopping?" He asked me.

"Well-" I was cut off by Riley smacking my arm.

"Yes she does!" She winked at me.
Derek scratched his forehead before nodding.

"I'll go get changed." He said and disappeared to our bedroom.

"Why must you do this to me?" I asked Riley who only smiled.

"Because it's going to be fun, and face it you need fun in your life."

"Yes, because having Max possibly back in my life isn't exciting enough. I need to have fun too!"

She gave me a look that made me completely shut my mouth.

Looks like we're going shopping.

For a Wednesday afternoon the mall wasn't too packed, which was nice, but Derek's protective arm thrown around my shoulder as we walked around was even better.

"Are you sure you're not too tired for this?" He asked.

"I'm just fine."

"So what store do you want to go in?" Riley asked as she eyed all of the glass covered displays with excitement.
