Epilogue . . . Presents For Us

Karen's POV

I parked my car in the driveway and slumped against the wheel, after hours of labor, Riley and Dylan had delivered a beautiful baby girl. It was a good thing I went because Dylan was a mess, like I predicated, but as I looked at my clock and saw the time I realized that I had a lot of cleaning up to do. I got out of the car and walked up to the door, and with one last sigh, opened it up and felt relief as I realized there was no mess, actually the house was spotless.

"Hey." Derek greeted me with a smile and a kiss. "How's my niece?!" He asked excitedly.

"Beautiful." I grinned at him and tucked a piece of hair behind my ear. "She was a lot of work, but she's healthy and so is Riley."

"Good, I'm glad. When can we see her?"

"Tomorrow." I answered. "In the afternoon?" I suggested with a yawn.

"Of course baby, how about we sit on the couch and relax."

"Derek, I really want to go to bed." I whined but let him lead me to the couch.

"I know, but I need you to see Garrett's present." He said as we sat down.

"Garrett should be sleeping, we can show him in the morning." I added, but he shook his head.

"No way, he's been bugging me for this since you left." He chuckled. "Garrett she's home!" Derek yelled and before I knew it I heard the sound of feet and Garrett stood before me with a grin.

"Hi mom!" He smiled and I smiled back at him.

"Hi honey, I'm sorry to leave your party but Aunt Riley need-" I was quickly interrupted by him shaking his head.

"Mom, Derek already told me about it." He smiled. "It's okay." He reached up to hug me, and I hugged him back.

"Well, this is a nice surprise." I chuckled before adding, "You really want that present don't you?"

"Mhm." He said and I rolled my eyes.

"Well, let's not keep you waiting then." I pulled back after kissing his head.

"Go ahead Derek." I smiled.

Derek smiled at me before winking at Garrett. "Go ahead, buddy."

"Mom, the only way I can get this present is if you say yes." Garrett said before pulling paper out of his pocket.

"Say yes? I already said you can open the present." I said confused.

He shook his head before giving me the papers that I took only to be even more confused by the legal stamp along with the type writing that I tried to quickly read over.

"Mom, I want Derek to be my dad." He said and I froze.

"W-what?" I stuttered and looked up at Derek.

"Those are adoption papers baby, I want to legally adopt Garrett." Derek said and kissed my cheek. "All you have to do is say yes and sign." He explained.

I looked up at both of my boys. "Is this . . . Is this what both of you want?" I asked with tears running down my face.

"YES!" Garrett squealed.

"Absolutely, more than anything . . . Actually, no I don't." Derek shook his head.

"What?" I asked Derek confused and angry.

"I don't want to be Garrett's father . . . as your boyfriend." He explained before getting down on one knee.

"Oh my God." I whispered to myself as Garrett sat next to me and wrapped his arms around my waist from the side.

"Karen, ever since the first night I met you two, I knew that I wanted to make you both my family. I love you both with all my heart and would never do anything to hurt you, and after talking to Garrett about taking your hand in marriage-"

"I said yes." Garrett grinned and Derek chuckled.

"He did, very quickly, so I made him think about it for a couple of days, and after those days he came up to me and asked me if I would ever make you sad or hurt you."

I looked at my son and kissed the top of his head. "He's very protective." I chuckled.

"I know, and I respect that. I promised never to make you sad ,or hurt you like . . . some people, I promised to protect you and love you and make you happy." Derek smiled and took my hand. "I want to marry you Karen, and I want to make you and Garrett happy for the rest of your lives."

"Mom, say yes." Garrett whispered.

"Will you marry me?" Derek asked me.

I looked between the boys before shaking my head at Derek. "I couldn't imagine saying no."

Derek's eyes widened. "Is that a yes?" He asked as he sat up just a bit straighter.

"Yes." I chuckled.

He quickly sat up to kiss me with the most passion I have ever felt, before cupping my cheek and chuckling. "You know for half a second I expected you to say no."

"I never had no in my mind." I laughed and kissed him again.

"Derek, the ring." Garrett instructed.

With a smile Derek slid the diamond ring on my finger. "Do you like it?" He asked and looked up at me.

"I love it." I answered immediately.

"BEST BIRTHDAY EVER!" Garrett cheered.

I cuddled Garrett at my side before pulling Derek up to join us.

"There's nothing else that could make this birthday better?" I teased Garrett who shook his head.

"Nope, I got my wish." He answered.

"Your wish?" I asked with a raised brow.

"What was your wish buddy?" Derek asked.

"I wished for a family."

I kissed Garrett's head, and looked at Derek.

"Now, you have one." I smiled at Derek.

"Forever." He smiled at me before leaning over and giving me a long kiss.

Garrett let out a yawn. "I'm tired." He admitted with a blush.

"Why don't you go up to bed and we'll come up in a bit."

He got up and rubbed his face. "Good night mom, good night dad." He grinned.

"Good night buddy." Derek was the first to answer.

With a smile and a little light in his eyes Garrett went to bed leaving Derek and I alone.

When the coast was clear I straddled Derek's lap. "I love you."

"I love you too baby." He smiled and pecked my lips. "Are you happy?"

"Very."

"Good, and I promise to keep you happy forever." He said and played with the ring on my finger.

"I guess it's a good thing Garrett made that wish then." I chuckled.

"Baby, it didn't take a wish to make me fall in love with you." He said and cupped my cheek. "I love you because you're smart, strong, incredibly sexy, funny, and-"

"Alright enough before I change my mind." I teased and kissed him once more.

"I can't imagine being with anyone else."

"Me either baby, me either."
