Chapter Two . . . Date Interrupted
Derek's POV
"I can't believe we came all this way because some old lady's cat got stuck into a tree." I looked over at my friend and partner, Elliot, who had a grin on his face while I was only annoyed.
"What are you all smiles about?" I asked and punched him in the arm.
He rub the spot but continued to have the smile on his face. "You're just mad because the lady was all over you like flies on honey."
I scratched the back of my neck on that one.
It was true the poor old woman couldn't keep her hands off of me . . . and my butt. Which not only caused me from doing my job but also caused the laughs of about all of my partners.
"Yeah well, I didn't see anybody hitting on you." I shot back causing him to smirk.
"True, but there weren't anymore little old ladies around now were there. What is Karen going to think?" It was my turn to smile this time at Karen's name.
Karen, now she was another story. She was pretty much everything I wanted and everything I needed. Her beauty was unbelievable almost like a little angel, and her smile was like a diamond it just shined and it definately brightened up a room. Unfortunately, her eyes told me her story of fear and darkness, but I didn't know the story of what caused it. I needed to know what hurt my baby and after nine years I still didn't know.
A few months ago when Riley was in the hospital along with Karen I noticed scars on Karen's body. Scars that were clearly not from just 'accidents'. Which makes me want to push her past more without hurting her.
"Hey, did you hear me?" Elliot asked.
"What?" I asked shaking my thoughts of Karen.
"I said, do you want to get a drink?"
"Yeah, sure. I'm going to call my brother though. I never actually took him out for his celebratory drink for getting engaged and finding out he's going to have a kid all in one day." I said as I pulled out my cellphone and dialed the number.
"Oh yeah, how is Riley?" I held the phone to my ear and shrugged.
"Dude, she's pregnant she probably hormonal and a big pain in the ass, not that she wasn't before she was pregnant." I joked just as Dylan answered.
"Who's a pain in the ass?" He asked.
"No one, don't worry about it. Worry about the fact that we're going to a bar, right now to get wasted and celebrate getting enaged and Riley being pregnant."
"Uh man you know on any other night I would totally take you up on that offer, but I'm busy."
"I thought Duke was playing chief tonight." There was a pause on the phone before I heard a younger voice.
"Dylan come on I need to play this before mom gets home!" It was then that I recongized that voice.
"Are you at Karen's house?" I asked confused.
"Well um I guess you can say that." He said clearly not wanting to give me a straight answer.
"Is everything okay? Is Karen alright? How about Garrett?" Questions were darting out of my mouth and I couldn't control it.
"Everyone and everything is fine." There was something in his voice that made me not believe him.
"Let me talk to her." I demanded.
"Well that's going to be a problem . . ." Dylan trailed off.
"It shouldn't be a damn problem if everything is okay Dylan." I heard him sigh.
