Hi everyone!

I'm about to start exams then I'm on holiday so updates may take a while but I'm going to try and make up for it before I go so thank you for sticking with me so far!

I thought my last modern day chapter was a bit dull so I'm hoping this one will be a bit more exciting!

I hope you all enjoy!

I opened my eyes to the blinding sunlight seeping through the crack in my curtains. I sat up and smiled as I remembered what I was going to do today.

For the first time in what felt like forever, I had plan. A purpose.

You know that amazing feeling you get when you wake up and you know exactly what you are going to do that day. It doesn't necessarily have to be a good day, but it's safe. You know what you're going to do.

That was something I hated about being in the Kings. There was no order to life. No routine. One minute you were sitting down wondering what you were going to have for dinner, and next minute you were leaping around the place going trigger happy with a machine gun in someone you had never seen before in your life.

And I couldn't stand that. The feeling of not knowing whether you were going to be alive next year, or next week, or even the next day.

And today felt safe because I knew what I was going to do.

I was going to start my mission that I promised Sam about.

I was going to take down the Kings.

"You what?!" Evie shrieked her eyes looking like they were about to leap out of her skull.

"Shut up," I hissed as heads began to turn.

Evie had not taken my 'plan' well. It was dangerous and hell could break loose, but to her it just didn't make sense. I refused to give her a proper explanation for why. I didn't want her to get hurt.

"Why in gods name would you want to join the Kings?" She hissed incredulously.

I stared at her blankly.

"You're just gonna have to trust me, Evie."

Then her eyes turned angry. "After everything I told you, everything I confided in you, you still don't trust me."

"Evie," I said gently reaching out to place my hand on her arm. It wasn't that I didn't trust her. I trusted her more than I'd rusted anyone in my whole life. If I could tell her the truth I would. But I just...can't.

She slapped my hand away.

"Have you just been using me this whole time?" She whispered, her eyes full of betrayal. "Have you just been friends with me to get to Sebastian?"

"Of course I haven't," I said gently. "Being friends with you has changed everything. You may not realise it Evie, but I changed when I met you. You reminded me what it was like to have a friend. To trust someone. Knowing you has been the closest I ever got the life I always wanted."

She stared at me, understanding and kindness gradually filling her eyes.

"Okay," she said.

"Okay what?" I questioned.

"I'll do it. I'll get you into the Kings."

I smiled at her warmly. "Thank you, Evie."

"But know this," she said sternly. "I know you won't tell me your whole reason for wanting in to the Kings, but I'll trust the fact that you'll tell me when you're ready," she said.

"Also," she said quietly. "You say you're doing this to help the Kings, to protect mee. You're good at what you do so I'm sure you would."

"But I'm fine with the way things are at the Kings," she said finally meeting my eyes. "So if I do this, I'm doing it for you."

Sorry it's a short update but I didn't want to write a longer one that was burning, so I hope you liked it!
