Davina's POV

The familiar ringtone began to sing out from my mobile. I didn't need to look to know who it was. Evelyn. I knew I'd have to deal with this sooner or later, but I couldn't deny how nervous I felt as I reached to answer it. As I pressed the answer button I prepared myself for the onslaught of shouting and expletives, but instead it was deathly silent.

"Evie?" I asked cautiously.

"What the fuck is wrong with you?" She yelled. Ah, here it comes.

"Evie, please let me explain," I began calmly.

"You've got some fucking nerve."

"I'm really sorry, Evie," I said quietly. I knew I'd have to face the consequences of using her in my plan, but it wasn't easy. There was no reply. "We need to discuss this in person," I began. "Meet you in the bar in ten?"

With that the line went dead before she replied. I guess now I'd have to wait and see if she bothered to turn up. Honestly, I wouldn't blame her if she didn't. I instinctively reached for the vibrant red wig then stopped myself. Not much point with that anymore. I pulled on my thigh high boots and smoothed the edges of my leather jacket as I grabbed my keys leaving the flat. We had met at this bar every Friday before she had a big job. It had always been our place. I hurried round the corner to the bustling pub, pushing my way through the smokers outside. I scanned the crowd for her, and at out usual seat there she was, sitting up at the bar, and to an outsider this wouldn't look any different to our usual meetings. Tentatively I slipped into the seat next to her, nodding to the bartender for my usual. I watched her, waiting for her to break the silence. It seemed like she would happily wait me out for hours.

"I'm sorry." I said finally, not being able to stand it any longer.

She simply scoffed and rolled her eyes.

"You were never meant to be a part of it," I said, the guilt flooding my voice. "You never should have been and I'm so fucking sorry."

"You know what the worst part is?" She said, hate seeping in her voice. "That you actually made me think you cared about me."

"I do," I hurried, "I always have cared about you Evie and I still do, please believe me."

"Why the fuck would I believe anything you would say?" She sneered.

"Because I'm here." I said with finality. "I could easily have run and never seen you again if I had wanted to, but I'm here trying to fix this because I don't want to lose you."

She turned to meet my eyes, and I could feel I was starting to break through her shell.

"What was your endgame?" She asked. I sighed. This was the second tim eI'd been asked this question and I still wasn't any closer to a real answer.

"I don't know," I confessed. She looked at me in curiosity, saying nothing. "I really don't know," I repeated. "Seb just broke me, and all I could think about was how I was going to break him. And now I'm here, I realise I never prepared for any of this."

"How?" She said.

Then I told her everything. She deserved it. When Seb killed our parents, from the day I'd met Danny, how hard I;d fallen from him, and trying to keep our relationship going whilst being gang rivals. How Sebastian found out, how'd he'd kicked me out and I'd lost my baby. I saw her emotions break at that point. This was her family too. How he'd told Danny I was dead, and all I'd been planning this last year was how to get back at him.

"That was you," she breathed, looking into the distance.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

Then she told me the same timeline, from her point of view. How Danny had changed when I left, how broken he was with grief. That his rage had fuelled into the gang, and they'd gone form strength to strength. How Sebastian had come for them, and taken Evie in return for protection. I thought about telling Evie the truth, that it had all been Seb this whole time, and I knew I really shouldn't lie to her again, but I couldn't face it. Not today.
