a/n : I used my own health concerns + experiences regarding rheumatoid arthritis (which affects most of my joints). It will not accurately represent every person's experience, but I hope it is enjoyed media nonetheless. this was also impulsive and me trying to distract myself and cope :/ also this is a repost

• reader has some form of arthritis or other joint/bone-related disease for this

• most days you can handle walking around and working in ketterdam

• but sometimes the pain is unbearable and you don't want to let kaz down because he never gives up no matter the amount of pain he was in

• yet he was the only one who you could talk to and have him understand exactly how you were feeling

• he would never be disappointed that you couldn't work some days

• he understood and actually envied you for giving yourself moments to relax

• cause god knows he needed to give himself a break

• you both were hyper-aware of each other's issues and wouldn't want to burden the other with the weight of your own issues

• kaz always liked having you with him for various heists because then he can guarantee where you are and how you're doing

• but he refrains from doing that
you both know having the 2 disabled people working together isn't always a recipe for success

• you're much safer with big stronk matthias or sneaky slicey inej

• honestly, you'd probably get thrown into matthias and nina's group a lot

• those two are most likely to keep you intact if anything went awry

• inej would probably accompany you on regular daily activities

• kaz would add all of your pain onto himself if it meant you could be better

• he won't tell you that though
he understands limping upstairs and shaking from overwhelming your body

• and he winces every time he watches your lips quivering and shoulders tense up

• everyone is already terrified of what the bastard of the barrel would do to them if they so much have considered his knee a weakness or anything

• but they cannot even fathom what he would do to someone who so much as looked at you funny

• you tried to hide any part of your disability as much as possible, hating the look of pity and sometimes disgust from ketterdam citizens

• but you're not perfect, and it's okay
at some point, some guy called you a slur on the street

• which got around to kaz because you were hanging around jasper at the crow club, just sitting with him cause your hands were stiff and you wanted company

• but jasper let it slip that someone was hassling you and kaz had the dregs scouring the city that night for whoever did it

• once kaz got ahold of him he left with insanely damaged fingers and the loss of sight in his right eye

• you weren't aware of this for a while
probably mentioned to wylan how everyone steps to the side like you were mr dirtyhands yourself

• "yeah, that's cause kaz made it very clear not to mess with you"

• you stopping everything you were doing and questioning what he meant

• he looks up from his new bomb and gives you the rundown of what he knows

• immediately finding kaz to confront him

• "what do you think you're doing"

• kaz just stands there like🧍" sorry what?"

• "Threatening and hurting people"

• he has not caught on that you meant for you, but he's so shocked because that's what he does, it's what he has been doing

• "is there a problem with it?"

• "yeah I have a problem with it, you can't just blind people-"

• "partially blind, but continue" he points a singular finger towards you to further demonstrate his point

• "for my sake. you know I'm capable of handling myself"

• kaz finally understood what you were talking about

• he wants to feel bad. he wants to take it all back when he sees the hint of desperation in your eyes. but no one gets to just treat you like shit and get away with it.

• "you are incredibly capable of a lot of things, but I would have done the same thing if someone said that about me"

• he was partially telling the truth

• he would harm someone for harassing him, but only if it's to prove a point and definitely not to the extent he did for you

• you both talked it out and he (reluctantly) agreed that he can only inflict pain on others for harassing you if it's pre approved by you

• this man would never make you write a single thing ever
