Despite Jake reassuring you multiple times it would be fun, you never lost the feeling of apprehension that seemed to follow you around everywhere. The band's gig was Saturday and you waltzed your way through the rest the week rather quickly. It was most likely your routine that seemed to carry you effortlessly through the mundanity of life, the sort of attitude that entailed: wake up, write, reason with Annie, see Jake, sleep, and repeat.
When Friday night rolled onto the schedule it was then you realized this would be the first friday night in a few weeks that you actually... weren't spending with Jake? That seemed a little confusing to you. Even when Jake would have gigs on Saturday's usually he would come over anyway on Friday nights for a movie, but he had made an excuse this time. Something about, "we have to practice extra hard since I hear someone special is coming to see it".
Yeah, the kid could be smooth when he wanted to be, and as sweet as it was... it was weird. It threw a wrench in the routine you had gotten quite used to.
Due to the fact that for once you and Jake were not going to be together you and Annie had made plans to spend the night inside your little apartment and "catch up". That pretty much just meant that Annie was going to paint your nails and rattle on about her work drama and anything else that popped in her head while you would recount the plot of some lame rom-com to her and mope about the characters being sappy... well- girls nights used to be like that. Not so much anymore.
Simply because you and Jake were going pretty steady (mind you, without the label) and Annie hadn't actually mentioned her boyfriend in a few weeks, you both didn't contribute to the conversions like you always had before.
Currently you and Annie were sitting across from each other on the living room couch in your apartment. (The old beat up thing served so well on nights like these, those beat up cushions did wonders on your back.) You wafted your hands back and forth in the air to hopefully give the effect of "drying" your nails and Annie was laser-focused on a shade of liquid red, applying it to her big toe in concentration like she had for her other foot minutes before.
As Annie worked to make each nail perfect for her homemade pedicure you pursed your lips and rattled on to her about Jake and what he had said to you earlier in the week.
"And then- he told me he wanted me to meet his bandmates-" You said in a hurry, trying to recount to her all the details of the conversation you could remember. Annie hummed through her concentration, letting you know she was still listening. "I mean, you don't think it's a little weird that he wants me to meet his brothers and best friend before we make it official?" You said, searching for some advice or at least to be consoled for all the thoughts trapped inside your head as you worried yourself.
Annie looked up from her art project, raising a brow at you. "I kinda see where he's coming from, (Y/N)." She replied, taking a moment to blow on the paint coat to dry it before continuing. "He said that he wants to make sure you..."
"-Are here for the long haul before he commits." You finished for her, watching her purse her own lips to mimic you as she thought.
"Right." her hands went to seal the nail polish bottle, sealing the cap on it. "So it sorta makes sense to see if they like you. I mean, what if they don't?" Annie threw the question out in the air, setting the bottle of nail polish on the rustic coffee table near the old couch.
"Aw seriously c'mon Annie! Do you want me to worry?" You whined, furrowing your brows. You stared at her through your lenses and tried to calculate if she was serious. Annie shrugged at you, clicking her tongue as he formulated a better response.
"What I mean to say is," she shifted in her seat, "Jake clearly just wants to make a good impression on his brothers and he probably thinks highly of you and wants them to see what he sees in you- ya know?" She slumped down against the couch. You slumped with her, crossing your arms over your chest.
