The happiest day of a woman's life they say is supposed to be the day she walks down the aisle and marries herself off. Well, for some it's the most special moment a girl can have- a white dress, family, music, and the single thing humans crave most: love.
Sitting and staring at yourself in the gleaming lights of the vanity only gave your mild anxiety though. Was this really something you were ready for? You were young, you had so much left to experience. Everyone thought it was too soon, it was rushed. You would've believed them, but being so young leads you to do foolish things. One of those being a wedding in a church you hadn't committed yourself to, with a man you'd only known for a few years at most.
Now as you stared yourself down, hair barely finished and makeup covering what you were most insecure about, you could barely recognize yourself. Did you feel beautiful? Well you definitely felt something. Were you in love? Well you definitely felt safe.
You had your closest friends from college sharing the small little bridal room with you. Annie was your maid of honor, she'd worked so hard to make sure this day was going smoothly for you. That meant making sure your mother didn't throw a fit at the slightest mishap... you appreciated her so much at this moment in time.
"Are you almost ready?"
You looked up at the sound from where you had zoned out staring at yourself in the vanity mirror. Annie was smiling at you from behind, but she seemed nervous. Her hands were just slightly shaking and although you could tell she was keeping a calm exterior the big day was definitely taking a toll on her. Mentally you reminded yourself she was only human and that even maids-of-honor could get stressed for the big day.
"I think so. Do I look okay? I feel like my hair seems flat." You joked with her to lighten the mood a little. Annie chuckled along and stepped closer to run her hands through the loose beach waves your hair had fallen into, mindlessly feeling it on her finger tips.
"You're stunning. If he could see you now, he'd be stunned speechless." She remarked. You scrunch your nose at the thought. Benny, speechless? The guy always talked a lot, so to see that would surely be a treat.
"How's my mother? Has she said anything to offend Benjamin's family yet? Also how many glasses of wine has she had since noon-"
"(Y/N), relax! I've got it all taken care of, seriously. This is your day, which means you don't need to concern yourself with the minor details." Annie tried to comfort you, but you raised a brow at her in the mirror instead, unconvinced.
She sighed and rolled her eyes, giving in. "Your mom's had about three glasses, so if she keeps it that way I think we're in the clear." She relented the information but you reacted by simply nodding your head. Good, you didn't need your mother causing a scene for the sake of the argument.
You loved your mother, she raised you all on her own, but you'd gone to college in a different state for a pretty fair reason and as much as you thanked her for even making an appearance today to support you, you knew how hard she was taking it that someone else was controlling your life and she had no part in it. Annie was a godsend for even putting up with the women all day, you'd be sure to gift her with something worthy of her patience.
But now, as you let Annie fuss over the rest of your hair and makeup, your gut was in knots. Flipping, turning, and fluttering with nerves. You loved Benny, he was your first and final love... some people got lucky on the first try, right? You certainly thought so. Benny was such a powerful influence in your life that when he had asked you to marry him you had no qualms saying yes. Were you young? Sure. But, you were hopeless and one shot was all you felt you really had at the whole love thing.
