You hadn't told Annie about your unfortunate interaction when you got home, hadn't even bothered to mention it the rest of the day. It was unimportant, and you didn't want her to go off to find him only to fight him on account of you. Annie was your best friend, she would do anything for you if you asked, but you weren't heartbroken anymore. You were just appalled at Benny's utter confidence to even utter your name from that sly mouth.
It didn't matter, you reminded yourself.
The rest of your day consisted of mild hysteric cleaning around your apartment. Your room wasn't super messy, but you tidied up anyway with laundry, wiping things down, vacuuming, ect. Whatever you needed to free your mind from the tragic grasp failed-romance seemed to have on you.
Running into Benny was a harsh awakening. Getting Jake's number was a stroke of good luck compared to the stroke of bad luck you often found yourself meddling with.
You almost didn't notice your phone chime as you shut off the vacuum and left it in a resting position in the corner of your room, stepping over the piles of folded clothes and clean laundry on your floor to pick up the device and check the lock screen vaguely.
Jake (from the bar):
Hey, I know i'm cutting it close, but are you free tonight?
Sent, 5:45pm
You smiled down at the screen. Well, good luck often counteracted the bad, didn't it? You bit your bottom lip as you typed a response back.
You:
I could do dinner, i'm actually starving. Just let me get ready!
Sent, 5:46pm
You threw your phone onto your bed, scrambling to your closet to find something modest to wear before remembering you just did laundry. Right. You shuffled back to your floor, kneeling to rummage through the neat piles to find something to wear. You mentally thanked yourself for literally just doing a load of laundry, praising yourself for how smart you could be sometimes.
Your phone chimed again and your body reacted by shooting up to snatch it off the covers of your bed immediately.
Jake (from the bar):
Sounds good beautiful ;)
Sent, 5:50pm
And then another one right after.
Jake (from the bar):
How does sushi sound? I know a place.
Sent, 5:50pm
You giggled at the thought of eating sushi with Jake, responding to him with a confirmation and that you would be ready within the hour. All you needed to do was shower and re-dress... maybe some light makeup. You didn't have any plans to do your hair in any special way, you rather liked what it looked like when it would dry loosely. In your mild contemplation Jake had texted you back that he could pick you up at 7pm.
Jake (from the bar):
This time I won't be late. I promise.
Sent, 5:55pm.
You were trusting him this time. He had shown his efforts with just how much two people could text within a 24 hour cycle, and you knew he meant it. Well, you hoped he meant it, you really needed a good dinner after what an absolute whirlwind your afternoon almost turned out to be.
