"You're gay?" Devin asked Dakota in wonder.

Everyone had expected it at the school when Dakota first started attending, but he soon proved them wrong by dating Lenore.

"Is that why you broke up with Lenore?" Devin questioned, "You decided you were gay all of the sudden?"

"Do you have a problem with that?" Dakota narrowed his eyes. Jesus, the kid was so defensive, Devin continually thought.

"No, but I can't say the same for anybody at school," Devin retorted, crossing his arms. The number of secrets this family held was astonishing. He was eager to find out more.

Dakota seemed like he grit his teeth. His jaw tightened. The kid had a pretty sharp jawline. Devin remembered getting punched in the jaw by Dakota- and he had a pretty solid hit. In fact, Dakota would have been a decent fighter if he practiced more. Devin did it all the time, whether it was with punching bags or people.

"I don't care what the school thinks," Dakota mumbled, "We'll be graduating soon."

Devin never thought about that. What would he do after graduation, when there is no one to manipulate to his will?

Lucas- Dakota's boyfriend- decided to interrupt his thoughts.

"So, you're the guy, who fought Koty?" Lucas looked him up and down, unimpressed. "You're the guy who knocked that girl up?"

Devin gave a little half-shrug. It was an oversimplification, but Lucas summed it up pretty well.

Lucas put a hand to his mouth and tried not to smile- but the curve of his lips showed themselves anyway.

"Wow," he mumbled with an amused expression on his face, "Girls these days really don't have standards, do they?"

Devin didn't know whether or not to be offended. For one thing, Lucas implied that he was ugly (or something like that). On the other hand, Lucas was one of those really pretty people who were allowed to call other good-looking people ugly. Devin looked towards Dakota.

"Is your boyfriend always this instigating?" Devin asked.

"Wow, he knows what instigating means?" Lucas mock-gasped, then giggled to himself.

Even though Lucas was outright insulting him, Devin gained a little respect for the blonde. He almost liked his personality- which Devin couldn't say for most people. It was similar to Tanner's- brash and honest. Although, Lucas carried a dangerous and cunning aura with him.

The sad part was, he couldn't even retort back. Lucas was obviously smart from the book he was reading. He was pretty. He was confident. What kind of insult could he use?

"Wow, your boyfriend is really annoying, " he decided to say to Dakota, but he smirked to demonstrate he had no ill will.

"Only to those who deserve it," Lucas winked, then blew him a kiss.

Devin honestly couldn't deny- Dakota picked a good one.

"Leave us alone now," Lucas commanded, his eyes scanning Devin carelessly. Those tiger-like eyes looked at Devin like he was a piece of rotten meat. "My boyfriend and I need to get ready for bed."

The blonde's mouth curled almost mischievously at the word "bed." He looked at Dakota, which caused Devin to look at Dakota. The emo boy was flush with red cheeks.

Devin got the hint.

"Okay," Devin decided he didn't want any more elaboration, "Bye." He shuffled out of there as fast as he casually could.
