"The 'you' I used to know is gone and the 'me' you used to know is gone" - Agust D, Dear My Friend

"They're my family," Now that got her attention.
"Come again?"
"Not biologically, but we were raised together," He continued, oblivious to the tension filling the room as he happily munched on his food.
Anastasia felt like she was spiraling. She was Alice and this was Wonderland because nothing made sense. The confusion and anxiety were only just overshadowed by the hurt she felt. She'd always assumed that Jungkook never spoke about his family because he wasn't on good terms with them, but apparently not.
He just hadn't wanted to share with her and so for the first time since they'd become friends, Anastasia felt alienated. She didn't belong in this part of his life, or more accurately, she wasn't welcome.
Following the hurt came thinly veiled anger. He didn't have enough respect for her to even give her a heads up that his brothers were in town? Fine, she wouldn't waste her energy playing along.
"I'm leaving." She stood and placed her plate on the table, stepping around Taehyung's legs as she headed for the exit.
"What? Taz, wait," Jungkook spoke through a mouth full of food and got up to follow her.
Not wanting to lose her cool in front of a room full of strangers, she ignored him and left.
She barely made it out the door before Jungkook reached her.
"Hey, whoa, what's up? I know it's a bit of a surprise, but—"
"You're right, it was a surprise. You didn't even have the fucking decency to let me know you had family in town. That's not even the bare minimum, though, no the least you could do was let me know they existed in the first place!" She snapped, roughly shoving her door open, having just enough self-control not to let it slam against the wall.
"Jagi, wait, I didn't mean to, I didn't know they were coming! Hey, hey, hey," Jungkook gently grabbed her wrist, trying to dissuade her from storming off to her room where he wouldn't follow.
"You even trashed my place, you know? I yelled at one of them thinking it was you, do you know how fucking mortified I am? Do you even care?"
Jungkook opened and closed his mouth, not knowing what to say.
She sighed, pinching her nose. As much as she wanted to solve things with him, and understand what was going on in his head, she wasn't calm enough and Jungkook had guests to get back to.
"Nevermind. Get out, we'll talk about this later."
When he finally, reluctantly, left, she crashed onto the couch with a hiccuped sigh, too emotionally drained to be motivated to get any work done. Time passed, unacknowledged, as she mapped out images in the paint on her ceiling until her lids began to droop. Before she knew it, she was asleep.
Hours must have passed, because when she opened her eyes again, her body now half off the couch, it was dark. She checked the time on her phone with a groan, wincing at the brightness.
9:38 PM it read. Still groggy and uncoordinated, she rolled off the couch with a thump. She stayed face down on the rug for a moment before slowly raising herself up to blurrily search the room. For what, she wasn't sure.
Her stomach decided her next move as it gurgled angrily at not being fed.
She nodded in agreement with her stomach. Food.
