Devin's POV

"MUMZEE I'M HOMEE!" We enter my humble abode, and I use my beautiful voice to make my appearance known to my mother.

Marco follows behind me as I walk into the living room. "You can sit on the couch while I find my mother." I was about to walk off until I turned around "Oh and don't worry about the cats they probably won't come out."

"You have cats?" Marco looks surprised. I swear sometimes people don't listen.

"Yea." I make my way through the kitchen towards the hallway pass the laundry room until I was met with my mothers door. I open the door and see she's watching a movie on her laptop in bed with her glasses on her face.

"Jaylen why are you being so loud?" After a long two days this is what I was met with. Her my middle name have a very close relationship.

"Yes mother, I'm okay after being missing for a day. Love you too" I know she was worried, she always worry.

"Yes, why were gone?" Now she paused the movie and is sitting straight up.

"All your questions will be answered when you go to the living room we have guest, so make sure you're decent."

With that I left my mother confused, and walked back to the living room to find Marco petting  and cuddling with not one, but both my cats.

I take out my phone and sneak a picture of  Marco petting Nala beside him and King in his lap. I just admire him in the moment, his face serene, shoulders relaxed, he looks peaceful.

"What are their names?" Marco's deep voice brought me out of my daze. I could feel my face heat up, it's a good thing for my brown skin cause I would've been exposed.

"The mixed cat is Nala and the grey cat is King, there names are related to the Lion King movie." He responded with a hum and return to giving the cats his attention. Lucky.

I made my way towards the coach when I heard a door open and close. "My moms on her way so you better prepare your big speech."

My mom enters the room dressed in a matching set of tan sweatpants and sweat shirt. Her faces morphed into curious and surprise when she saw the grown man on the couch petting our cats.

"Devin who is this and why is he here?" She asked with a sense of urgency in her voice.

"Go head and tell her Sunshine." I nudge Marco with my elbow.

"Hello Ms. Anderson, I'm Marco Hernandez and I would like to offer Devin a job at my business, but for some he job she must stay at a rental home for a week and a few days just so we can observe her and how she works." Marco voice was steady and professional. Face is stoic like he got a stick up his ass, while I just sit back comfortably letting this play out.

"And what will she be doing at the 'job'? My mother asked suspiciously.

"She'll be looking through files and help us find people who haven't payed mandatory taxes." Is that even a real thing.

"Devin?" I turned my head towards my mother. "Do you want this job?"

"Yes" I state clear and simple.

"Well alright that's all I need to hear. See you in a month Devin and act like you have common sense." My mother stands up from her seat. "Call me if your Dad calls."

It's not like my dad abandoned me, he wants to be in my life, but that's sorta the problem. He's terrible at communication, when things don't go his way he starts to yell. His yelling leads to an argument where he just talks over you the whole time, won't let you speak, demands respect, talks about how I 'insults' his intelligence then proceed to say theirs something wrong with me, and even sometimes insults my mother.
