~we choose our own path. Our values and our actions, they define who we are~
When I got home, James and Lucie were already there. I smiled weakly at James who smiled back, Oliver went up to his room to rearrange his book shelf to fit his new books in. I had given him most of my books from when I was younger because he loves them. But I still read them. My mum and dad are in the shower so I decide to sit down and listen to the others talk.
It is 6pm and people are starting to arrive. I changed into a dress, it was actually my mums but she gave it to me a few years ago. It is green and ombré's into orange. Music sings through the house. All my mums and dads school friends are here already and then Amour walks through the door. She looks like Nita a lot, from what I remember Nita looked like before she died. She shifts her shoulders nervously as she walks towards me.
"Thank you for coming," I say as Edmund walks up to us.
"And... why are here?"
"Shut up, Edmund," I say. "I invited her." He glares but walks away to James.
"Glad to see he is happy that I'm here," she says, sarcasm in her voice.
"Listen," I say walking over to the couch, she sits down next to me. "I think I know who your mum is." And just that moment my dad walks down the stairs and his gaze is locked on her.
"Who?" She sounds anxious to know.
"Nita Cockowl," I say as my dad keeps his gaze on us but talks to Sorrel.
"Didn't... she die?" Amours voice shaky.
"Yes," I tell her. "I know it is a big thing to think but you look so much like her and if your Aunty doesn't tell you, I think I know someone who can."
"Who?" She straightens her back.
"Let's just say, he used to be with her. And is in this house." Amour seems uncomfortable now.
"Call your Aunty, Amour," I stand up resting my hand on hers. "Find me after, oh and if your dad is who I think, we might want to be friends."
"I think we already are, I know I did horrible things but you are actually helping me."
"I know," I smile walking over to my dad.
"Hey, Em," he says. "Who's your... friend?"
"That's Amour," I smile. He knows something. But I can't say anything until I know that Nita IS her mum.
"She seems nice."
"Oh you have no idea," I mumble to myself. I find James and he is pigging out on banana's.
"Calm down," I laugh. "I need them."
"Why do you need them?" He shoves the end into his mouth.
"I eat them..." I pat his back.
"Why is Amour here?" He asks, ugh why can't people just stop asking that?
"I am... investigating something with here, for here." I laugh a little because I came up with the worst excuse.
"Investigating?" He laughs. "Okay."
"Okay." I repeat after him making him smile. That was our "thing" when we were dating.
"My Aunty did actually tell me," Amour said as we walk the hallway to the music room so no one can walk in while we talk.
"And...?"
"Nita Cockowl was my mum. My Aunty said she was with a guy for 4 years but he never knew she got pregnant because he left her and once I was born, she killed herself." Amour's voice shaky again.
"She didn't say who your father is?" I make sure.
"Nope," she shakes her head.
"Okay, here," I give her my phone with a picture of Nita. "You obviously know what you look like, go downstairs, look at that picture and see if you can find who's looks would be mixed with your mums to create you. That sounded a bit weird. But trust me." She nods and we make our way downstairs.
"If you can find him, and it is who I think, everything is going to change." I say looking at her. Both of us have the same dark eyes and nose shape but we hair is curly and blond. Our skin colour are the same, tan colour.
"I will stand away from you as you look," I tell her going and standing next to my mum who has a drink in her hand. Amour looks around, at my phone, back up. After a while of looking her eyes lock on one person. My dad. She looks at the phone, up at my dad, back at the phone and up at me. I run over to her.
"Who is he?" she gestures my dad. I hesitate.
"Look at me then him," she does.
"Oh my fucking god," she hands my phone to me. "Your dad, is my dad too."
"Amour, don't freak out, I need to talk to him first. He was with Nita for 4 years." I look at my dad who is wide-eyed.
"I think I should go," Amour says before leaving. I go up to my dad, and pull him behind me next to the pool fence outside.
"Did you know?" I ask him sharply.
"Know what?"
"That Nita had a fucking daughter?!" I almost shout. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't yell at you."
"When you and Amour were standing next to each other, you looked like sisters." He mumbles.
"Yes. That's because we are," I scowl.
"What?"
"You and Nita, Nita never told you, after you broke up with her, she gave birth to her, you didn't even know she was pregnant and as soon as she gave birth, she handed Amour to her sister, Kate, and killed herself at the bridge. With her car." His faced changed to something I haven't seen in years.
