Dragons and bombs filled the air and Brea started to cry. "Come out with the girl," boomed a voice. "It's a dragon person," Mr. Izman said, "I know how they talk." Jason looked at me. "Mrs. Annabeth, give Brea to Sarah. Sarah, go out the emergency escape hall. Run into the woods and follow the river towards the waterfall. Hide in the cave behind it," Jason said. I nodded. "Me go with Sarah," Brea said. I took her into my arms. She was surprisingly light, but I didn't have time to think about that. I ran where Jason told me to. Where else was I going to go?
The hall. The spook hall. There were no lights, windows, or even doors down it. Brea made some light with her fire so I could make sure I was going in the right direction. It was quiet. We were the only ones making noise. But we were quiet too. The long hall way seemed to be the place where a monster would live. I heard an explosion close by and I ran. Brea held on to me like if she didn't she would die. It was actually hard to run in my PJs. Long pants and a tank top aren't the best outfit for running away in. Then, I found it. The old iron door.
The old iron door looked like a door that would keep anything out. I was afraid I wouldn't get through. I grabbed the knob and turned it slowly. It creaked as I did. The door opened easily and we slipped in. I made sure I locked the door behind me. It was night, which means it was dark. It was cloudy too. No moon. No stars. No light at all really. Except Brea's fire. I ran into the woods. I didn't know if anybody was around. The crickets were making noises, and I heard a quiet sound of rushing water. Beautiful sounds, dark night. Brea started to fall asleep. I could tell. Her fire slowly went out. I was exhausted too, but I had to get us both too safety, or at least somewhere safer than here.
Safe. That's what I wanted to be. I quietly made my way around bushes, under trees, and above roots. I followed the river though. I kept it in sight, but I stayed hidden. My eyes adjusted to the darkness so I could see a bit better, or just enough to make it to the waterfall. Suddenly, I heard noises above me. I leaned against a tree to make sure it wasn't a person or a plane flying above us. Then, a saw a plane avoiding a dragon's fire. I ran to tree to tree. I had to make sure the fire wouldn't reach us. I put Brea on my shoulders. I heard people yelling and screaming behind us. I ran as fast as I could. An all-out sprint.
I sprinted and I wasn't going to slow down. I heard the waterfall approaching. Brea did too. She woke up. "Waterfall," she whispered. I barely heard her as I ran. I was sweating, tired, thirsty, and hungry. I hoped Jason had the camp set up. I would sleep on a rock if I had to though. Then, the waterfall emerged. There it was. I ran to it and went down the path that led into the cave. Jason did have it set up, two sleeping bags, food, water, and a first-aid kit. I put Brea down on one of the sleeping bags and I fell into the other one.
