Spencer poured coffee into two mugs on the kitchen counter.

"Someone needs a caffeine fix this morning" Melissa teased as she came down the stairs.

"One of them is for Toby" Spencer said rolling her eyes.

"Ah yes, you two lovebirds are the talk of the town." Melissa smirked at her little sister. Spencer still couldn't believe how the town had lost their minds when she and toby began waltzing around town together to fit the narrative they had fed her parents. Spencer had begun to regret the idea.

"Is it real?" Melissa whispered even though their parents had gone to NYC for a long weekend, "I thought it was a play to get mom and dad off your back?"

"It was at first, I don't know" Spencer huffed. She was very confused. Toby had said he wanted them to try dating while they were pretending anyway but he hadn't made a move. After three rejections, she'd be damned to throw herself at him again.

"Hmm" Melissa said pouring herself some coffee in a tumbler and leaving the house. Spencer didn't have time to think about how she was feeling because Toby was walking in the back door.

"Hey Spence?" Toby said sitting at the counter in front of the coffee mug he always used. "What do you want to do tonight?"

Spencer didn't have an answer. She was tired of the two of them parading around town. She missed the way things used to be when they just did things they liked doing without being worried about being seen.

"Earth to Spencer" toby said pulling her out of the fog. "Is something wrong?"

"Can we maybe just rent some bullshit movies tonight like we used to?"

"Yeah of course" toby said rubbing her back. The feel of Toby's hand on her brought her back to the innocent fake make out that had turned super real a few weeks ago. She wanted him badly and who knew maybe this movie night would give them the opportunity to explore things again.

"We better get going" Spencer said pointing to Toby's half full cup before downing the rest of her own.

"Yeah" he replied finishing his coffee and taking her hand walking out to the car.

"Toby my parents aren't here" she said motioning to her hand. He pulled her close whispering.

"I like holding it"

A thrill went up Spencer's back making her legs feel like jello. She fought the urge to tell him they should skip school and go up to her room, reminding herself he'd already turned her down. Twice.

When they arrived at school, their friends were in the courtyard looking quite conspiratorial.

"What's going on?" Spencer said as they approached. Toby's arm wrapped around the small of her back comfortably.

"One of my Hollis friends just started working as a doorman at Nirvana in Philly and can totally get us in." Ali said in a hushed whisper.

"Caleb and Ezra are going to drive." Hanna announced.

"Ezra and I will pick you two up at 8" Aria said.
Spencer winced internally not feeling up to a big night out. She was looking forward to her and Toby stuffing themselves with pizza and junk food and passing out on the couch like they used to.

"Spencer and I have plans" Toby said before Spencer could think up an excuse.

Ali glared up at the couple.

"This is the hottest club in the city, fucking celebrities could be there."

"What could you possibly be doing that's more fun?" Ali demanded.
