“What do you plan on doing with that?” Kasandra asks as we’re sitting against the wall, beside each other.
“With what?” I ask, confused. She points over to my duffle bag, and partially sticking out is a crossbow. I sigh.
“Nothing.” I reply.
“What do you plan on doing?” She throws another question at me.
“Nothing.” I say, getting more irritated as I’m holding an ice pack on my nose to reduce the swelling.
“What happened? Why won’t you tell me where you were or what you’re going to do?” she asks in an angry tone.
“It doesn’t matter.” I reply, still calm
“Ryan just...”
“Don’t worry about it.” I interrupt. “Just relax.”
I thought about telling Kasandra what my plans were, actually Dravon came up with the plan but we talked when we were alone at the plaza. Dravon has a friend, named Varcha. From what Dravon explained to me Varcha is the smart type, cautious to. Varcha has set up devices that surround his land; these devices disable all supernatural abilities when within range. Therefor we walk instead of teleporting.
2 WEEKS LATER. . .
“Ryan.” Dravon says quietly shaking me awake. Suddenly I awaken, fully alert. “Whoa, whoa. Calm down.” He whispers. “It’s time, Varcha’s ready for us. Get your stuff, we’re leaving”
Dravon teleports us into the forest, I can’t say how far in we are but I can only see trees and plants as far as I can see in every direction.
“This is as far as we can go; we should be coming within range of Varcha’s disablers any minute now, this way.” Dravon says, leading the way. I pull out my crossbow from my duffle bag and put my guard up. These parts of the forest are dangerous, either lurking with demonic creatures our being patrolled by Karda’s warriors. Suddenly my demonic arm starts to feel weird, sort of like a tingly feeling. Then the multi colored lava lamp effect faded away, actually the color between the plates on my arm completely faded away. Now my arm is just useless rock against enemies, no real power behind it.
“I got a bad feeling about this.” I say as I hold up my crossbow, scanning the area. Dravon looks back and notices my arm.
“We’ll be fine; I have had plenty of combat experience.” Dravon says. “Don’t you wish you would have let me trained you.” He asks.
“With my arm I was just fine, now I don’t have it so yeah, I wish I did.” I reply.
. . .
“Here we are.” Dravon says as he moves some palm fronds out the way, revealing a large opening.
“Whoa.” I say as I walk out from the trees and into the open. “This is Varcha’s place?”
“Yup.” Dravon replies as we walk closer to the huge house on a hill. The house is large and round, the roof is made of thick straw tightly strung together. There is smoke puffing out of a chimney and noises of metal being hammered inside. There is a large wooden deck that circles all the way around the house and is held up on large thick stilts since it’s on a hill. As we approach a staircase that splits the deck I notice many totem poles spread out through the land with odd devices strapped on to the top. There is one at the bottom of the stairs as well, I touch it with my demonic arm on the way up and in an instant my arm goes numb and falls to my side.
My arm gains movement after we reach the top of the steps.
“Varcha!” Dravon yells as he knocks on the door. We stand there a moment, nobody answers. Then I can hear several locks being unlocked from the inside, then it opens and I’m startled to see who it is, or I should what it is.
