━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

there once was a child. a very happy, rambunctious child. he was always smiling, glad to be living with his father and mother. he was happy.

that was, until the accident.

he had been going on a trip with his parents, going through rough roads and long highways.

one night, it was raining. pouring cats and dogs. very hard to see through all of the tears falling from the sky.

of course, this led to an accident. that happy, rambunctious family had crashed into another, which led into a domino effect. one car crashing into another, then another, then another.

it felt almost unending.

as cliché as it sounds, he had landed himself in a hospital, his memories completely wiped from the tremendous brain damage he went through.

his parents: dead.

so, now he was left all alone in the cold hospital room. the only people he knew of were the different nurses that would come in and check up on him, making sure he's doing alright before leaving once more.

days turned into weeks as he sat in the room. he couldn't go out to eat, and still didn't have the strength to eat solid food. he could barely open his mouth to speak to the nurses.

just like any other day, the door had opened. he had expected it to be another nurse- but, instead, it was a kid. one seemingly around his age.

"oh! there you are- hiii!" the child shouted, skipping over to the side of the bed.

he had only stared down to the happy child.

"i've been searching for you everywhere.. are you okay? i hope you're feeling better now..."

he tilted his head to the side. "who... are you?" his voice came out hoarse. he still was unable to speak properly.

"me? oh, i forgot that they said something happen to your head- i'm izuku midoriya! make sure to remember it." the child giggled.

he nodded his head softly. "who are... you? to.. me."

"ahh..." the greenette thought in silence. "i'm your best friend, of course, silly~"

again, he had only nodded his head. "mm... who- who am i, then..?"

"you," the young boy started. "you're my hero! you're the great (m/n)!"

since that day, izuku would continue coming to (m/n)'s room. he would keep the hospitalized boy company, telling him stories about what he did before the incident.

he would never share anything about himself, which piqued (m/n)'s interest as they grew older, but never found the right time to ask.

they watched each other grow, and continued to share many memories with one another. (m/n) was almost able to forget about how he had still been stuck in the hospital, or how his condition had still been growing worse.

they spent days, weeks, years, decades together. a duo seemingly unseperable.

until that day came. the day neither of them had expected.

"someone get a doctor!"

"his pulse his dropping-!"

"hurry, grab a mask and gloves-!!"

several nurses were rushing around him as the heart monitor next to him slowed.

after all these years, he hadn't thought it would end like this. not yet..! he wasn't ready..! he was finally happy. he finally had someone to keep them company, to keep him happy in this cold, lonely room.

"please..." he whispered softly. "where is he?"

one of the nurses heard his muttering, turning to look at the patient in distress. "who are you speaking of?"

"izuku.. midoriya?"

she squeezed her eyebrows together. "Ah- who?"

"the one who's been visiting me... these past years. my best friend..."

the female shook her head. "i'm sorry- but nobody has been visiting you since you've been in this hospital."

what..? that couldn't be true. he saw him with his own eyes! he was real, midoriya had to be real!!

he turned his head in a frantic, looking to the door of the room. standing there, he could see izuku's now grown figure standing in front of it.

"izu-"

a doctor quickly came rushing through the door, completely walking through the green haired boy. it was as if he were nothing but air, with how easy the man walked through midoriya.

"no..." he could feel a lump growing in his throat, his eyes dampening immensely as he stared at Izuku's fading figure. "it can't be true... I won't believe it..!"

all midoriya could do was smile as he spoke. "i'm sorry.. thank you for pushing on.. thank you for creating me, (m/n)... you're my hero."

his head began to spin as midoriya completely vanished from his sight.

all his life, he thought someone had actually cared. someone thought about him enough to come and see him every day, and spend all of their time keeping him busy.

however, it was merely a figment of his imagination.

now, (m/n) could only let a tear slide down his face as they let the darkness consume him.

there was no point in holding on any longer. the true hero hadn't been real in the first place.
