"MOMMY, HELP!"

She leaped to pin the cat, but he dodged it, sliced her side, hissed, and then bolted.

Alderfall let out a yowl. Ow, this hurts! She winced.

She looked at her other kits, Reedkit, Turtlekit, Honeykit, and Woodkit.

Reedkit had matted fur on his back leg, and blood was slowly pouring out of the wound. Woodkit had a small tear in his ear, and blood was slowly dripping down, but the other two were unscathed.

"Come with me, Reedkit and Woodkit. But stay away from Berrykit."

They limped to the medicine den.

"What happened?!" the medicine cat, Waterleaf, meowed, shocked.

"A C-cat," Reedkit mewed shakily. "He was black, and he had, like, orange-red eyes."

"He was scary," Woodkit shivered. "But I was brave, don't worry!" He staggered, then winced.

"Wait, did you say black pelt with orange-red eyes?" Waterleaf asked.

"Yes, we did. Have you seen him before?" She asked Waterleaf. Alderfall glanced at Berrykit, who was sound asleep in a nest.

The medicine cat flicked her tail for them to come.

She started chewing marigold for all of them, and then put it on their wounds. Then she got a dock leaf, chewed it up, and put it onto some of the scratches the kits had.

Last, she put some cobwebs on their wounds, then mewed "I need to go talk to DawnStar. She needs to hear about this."

"Can I come, too?"

"No. But Alderfall, I need you to come with me."

"Okay. Be good kits, and stay near a warrior."

"Okay." Woodkit sighed.

They padded to the leader's den, where DawnStar was laying down with her paws tucked under her chest.

"Hello, Waterleaf, and Alderfall." She looked a little confused for a second. "What do you both need?"

The medicine cat looked at her leader with worried eyes. "I had a dream."

"Oh?" Dawnstar had her voice smooth, but she had a little bit of the fear-scent that Alderfall had always found in cats that were worried. And she had a flicker of sadness in her eyes. Probably because of what had happened to her mate. Alderfall thought, remembering the blood-coated, limp body of Dawnstar's dead mate. PineClan thinks that a SmokeClan warrior had killed him while he was out hunting. He was also the deputy, so it had broken the hearts- and a little of their spirit- of PineClan's warriors, as well as elders and apprentices.

She remembered how Waterleaf had freaked out, yelling that she had seen this in her dream- or nightmare.

And after that, Dawnstar had always gotten scared whenever she heard that Waterleaf or herself had a dream, or a vision.

"Yes, Dawnstar. Alderfall and her kits saw a cat. He would've killed the kits if Alderfall hadn't been there." Waterleaf meowed. "Alderfall, describe the cat to us."

"Okay," Alderfall mewed, remembering the darkness of the cat's coat, like an abyss that was going deeper and deeper, until the only thing she could see was pure black. "He had a pitch-black coat, and he had eyes like fire, as fiery as the sun at dusk."

"This is just what I had dreamed about." Waterleaf whispered softly, just loud enough for Alderfall to hear.

Dawnstar looked at her, her expression like she just witnessed a murderer, right in front of her.

"What was it about?" Dawnstar asked.

"Should I say it in front of Alderfall?"

"Yes, he was coming for her kits, so she needs to know what she will be dealing with if she ever comes across him."

"Okay. But first, Alderfall, you need to promise to keep this secret. We don't want a commotion."

"I promise. I just need to keep my kits, and my clan, safe."

"Okay. This is the dream that I had: I was by a clearing, the scents of prey and the forest flooding into my nose. But the scent was disturbed by the hideous smell of blood. Lots of blood. I had smelled kit's blood, warrior blood. And out of the corner of my eye, I saw several limp bodies on the ground." Waterleaf explained sadly.

"Then I saw a shadow. I turned, but there was nothing there. I looked around, and found eyes like fire looking at me. And then the cat emerged." She looked at Alderfall. "And he had a coat like the sky at night."

She looked back at Dawnstar. "I didn't know if he was in StarClan, but it looked like he was staring right at me, and he was coming closer by the second. And then he pounced, and the dream ended."

"But it seems that since you saw him in your dreams," Dawnstar observed.

"Then he is very much alive. Alive, and coming for us."
