Deidara boards the train. For now, he has a one-way ticket to Konoha. He brings a small suitcase packed with essentials and things to keep him busy.

He has so much time to think.

Think about where he's going and what he'll do. As much as he'd like to drown out his trip with music, his earbuds died right before he boarded the train. He doesn't feel like whipping out his tablet either because it's buried beneath other things.

So he'll sit.

With his mind.

For the day or so, he's there with his thoughts.

He rests his head against the window, watching the world slowly begin to blur. The train blares its horn, and people on the platform wave to their family, friends, partners, and even strangers.

Deidara's mind isn't swirling with complicated issues or anxiety. He has a good head on his shoulders, and he seems to know what he's doing. But he can't help wonder what [Name] is doing. If she's lying about that guy being her roommate.

What if he actually is her new boyfriend?

Deidara's heart clenches. He won't admit it, but he still harbors feelings for [Name]. Their relationship wasn't perfect, and for that matter, neither were them.

[Name] was more based in reality, working hard to curate their house into a home. Not ever growing up in Konoha, Deidara sat back and watched her do it all. Finding a job was hard for him, so [Name] worked in his stead while he chased his dreams. The work was stressful for her, but he saw an opportunity out of their little hell.

Unfortunately, that would've meant she'd have to leave her grandmother's house. She'd have to return to Iwa with him, and she wasn't willing.

It hurt when [Name] wasn't willing to leave with him. So one night, he grabbed all his things and went while she worked the night shift. When she returned from her double shift, all she had left was a cold dinner and a note saying they were through.

What a messy, messy relationship.

If only she were more emotionally available, if only he understood more of her feelings. If only they understood each other. If only they were more supportive of one another.

Then maybe they could've had something beautiful.

...

Deidara wakes from his dreamless sleep. The lights on the train are a dim blue, and most people are zoned out, passed out, or talking it out with a friend.

Deidara glances out the window. The scenery changed from the tall, gloomy grey buildings of Iwa to the bright greens and blues of Konoha.

Compared to Iwa, it's no wonder she'd want to stay, he thinks. It's prettier.

Two more hours, and he'll be at her door.

The rattling of the tracks fills his ears, and the clacking sound lulls him back into the dreamless sleep.

...

Being the artist that he is, Deidara can appreciate the natural beauty of Konoha. The trees stand tall and magnificent, and the wind carries the musky scent of flowers up into his nose. Even the urban areas smell of sweetness and warmth. Everything feels fresh.

Like a new beginning.

Deidara drags his suitcase away from the platform and exits the train station. He rubs his eyes before waltzing to the nearest bus stop. He plops down on the bench, watching as two kids beg for money.
