Three minutes passed. Sasuke breathes, scanning the cracks for any movement. There is none—just the stars above and a cool breeze.

He turns to Karin, "Can we---"

Before he can finish his question, she nods. "We can go now. Just, when you open these doors, do it slowly."

Sasuke places on hand on the door while Karin places her hand on the other. Together, they push open the doors and a rush of cold air pools in. He relishes in the moment, loving the feeling against his skin. Karin smiles at his relieved face but knows this will only last for a few seconds.

"Sasuke," she calls him back into reality. "We only have two minutes until the next guard comes patrolling by. Let's move."

Sasuke nods and climbs from the hole first. He feels the grass on his feet, and it's then that he remembers in his scuffle with Orochimaru, he forgot to grab shoes. The wet grass feels just as lovely, however.

Sasuke lends a hand to Karin and pulls her out of the hole. Once out, Karin kicks the basement like doors closed. They situate themselves, backpacks on their backs, Karin's phone and bus fare are in her pockets; it's then that they both hear Orochimaru's voice over a loudspeaker.

"Sasuke! I won't stop looking for you! I will have you!"

The hiss over the speakers sends shivers down Sasuke's spine. The disgust he feels jump-starts his adrenaline, and he speeds off with Karin behind him.

An alarm goes off, and the whole house erupts in lights. Inside the house, all the yellow lights shine brightly through the windows; outside, the lights lining the fence flash on in sequence.

Karin knows precisely where to go. They zig-zag across the grass, avoiding any spots of light and purposely crouching and moving swiftly to evade any onlookers.

When they reach the looming fence built around the complex, Sasuke throws his backpack and Karin's over it, and the packs land with a thud. Like a gentleman, Sasuke lifts Karin up onto the fence first while he looks out for more guards.

Karin climbs the fence quickly, scratching her knee on the metal. She hisses but continues until she flops down to the other side.

"Come on, Sasuke," she says in a hushed tone. Sasuke looks back one last time at the place he's held captive for God knows how long. A pang of loss hits him, but he pushes it aside as he climbs up. The taste of freedom dangles above him, so there's no time for feeling melancholy.

He lands on his feet next to Karin, and in one swift movement, he grabs his backpack and continues forward. Karin follows him.

And they head for the city.

[Name] holds Itachi's head against her chest. He says he enjoys listening to her heartbeat, but right now, it's erratic. Apologies tingle his tongue to the point where it no longer sounds like a word. He clings to her, body shaking.

But the sound of [Name's] pounding heart soothes him. A partial memory floats into his head. He's done this before on another woman's chest, listening to her heart, her breathing, and the sweet nothings she spoke to him. When he tries to remember her face, it's a blur, an error.

"Itachi?" [Name] speaks softly, gauging his reaction. "Will you be okay?"

Itachi shakes his head. "Play with my hair, please."

"I---"

She hesitates. With a shaky hand, she drags her fingers between Itachi's black tresses. He sighs, relief washing over him, his mind calming down finally. It's at peace, like a screensaver.

"Itachi, I must go out for a few," her voice tiptoes around these words like she's too afraid to tell him outright that she'll be up and gone. "Is that okay?"

[Name] needs a break from this, and the feel of him squeezing her tighter insinuates that she's not leaving any time soon.

"Stay with me," Itachi mumbles.

"Itachi, I have to go."

"You have to stay," his voice wavers. His fingers twitch. "Please, [Name], you have to stay with me."

[Name] swallows, looking towards the door. She just wants a taste of freedom, but she continues consoling Itachi.

[Name] knows that something is deeply wrong with Itachi. After that outburst, there's no doubt in her mind that this man is deeply disturbed by the horrors of his past. However, she also knows he came to her in a box by three shady men, he has little to no memories and nothing to stabilize himself. She has nothing but pity for him.

She cradles his head, holding him close.

This poor, tortured soul, [Name] muses while petting his hair. I wish there was something I could do.

"Just stay with me," Itachi mumbles as if to answer her thoughts. His eyes shut, loving her scent, her touch, her breathing, and the sound of her heart.

He enjoys her presence.

"Just stay, please, [Name]."
