Maybe this is risky, [Name] thinks as she stirs up a homemade soup. Curled up on the sofa is Itachi, still twitching and mumbling to himself. [Name] thought that some hot soup would make him feel better, which is why she's in the kitchen now. She also thinks pushing him to talk about what he remembers might be good for him too.
But the memory of him screaming at her, holding her tightly, spewing insults; the memory scares her. Yes, Itachi is undoubtedly sweet, but he's scary when he wants to be. Unlocking his memories is dangerous.
"Maybe it's too risky," she mumbles, absentmindedly stirring the boiling pot. "Maybe I need to---"
"What's too risky?"
[Name] jumps at the sound of Itachi's voice, dropping the spoon into the pot. Most of the handle sinks into the thick liquid, and she deflates, watching it as it goes down. She turns to him. "Ah, it was nothing."
Itachi gives her a worried smile, his kind eyes seeping pity. "You shouldn't try risky things. You might get hurt."
She turns off the stovetop and removes the pot from the heat. "Itachi, please lay down. Don't worry yourself over me."
Please. It's gonna be harder for me to kick you out if I must. She shakes the thought from her head and asks him to return to the couch once more.
He doesn't budge.
At this point, she knows it's useless to tell him again. So, she searches for a bowl in the cabinets. If Itachi hadn't washed the dishes a few days prior, she wouldn't have a clean bowl for soup today.
[Name] picks up the handle---the part that doesn't have soup on it---and scoops some into the bowl. She finds her favorite soup spoon and hands both the bowl and the spoon to Itachi. "Go sit and eat. I'll join you in a second."
He does as she says, and in a few minutes, she joins him with her own bowl of soup. They sit across from one another. For distance, of course. If she asks such risky questions, then she'll need space, for if---or when---he freaks out.
She stirs her soup, mixing up everything that settled at the bottom. "So...Itachi..."
[Name] hesitates, glaring down at broth. She bites her lip and looks at him to speak! But, her words stick in her throat. The cute look on his face catches her off guard.
His eyes sparkle, his cheeks puff with how much soup is in his mouth, and a piece of rice sticks to his cheek. She's overwhelmed by his cuteness and only mumbles out, "Um... So, Izumi?"
He blinks. "Izumi? What about her?"
She casts her eyes away. "What do you remember about her?"
"She was my girlfriend," Itachi says simply. His mind grows with static as he remembers her voice. It's hollow and coarse. The static in his mind turns red. "My fiance, actually."
"What happened between you two?" She asks. Then she adds, "If you can remember."
Itachi taps his spoon against the bowl as he thinks. It doesn't put [Name] at ease. With each clink, the muscles in her shoulders tense.
With one last clink, it clicks in his brain.
"I remember she cheated on me," Itachi speaks solemnly. He hides and holds back his anger quite well. "It hurt me. We were together so long---since high school. For over a decade. I guess she got tired of me."
...
Itachi walks up the steps to his apartment. In his hands is take out from the closest family-owned restaurant. It's her favorite, kaarage and dango. Of course, it has other stuff with it, but he especially picked those out just for her.
