How many hours has it been since [Name] left? Not that long actually. It's been thirty minutes, but to Itachi, it feels like she's been gone for thirty hours.
Itachi lays on her bed, unmoving, unblinking, trying his best to shut his eyes. But his mind, his artificial brain, runs endlessly into chaos. He cannot close his eyes and rest when her distinct smell seeps into his sensors. He wishes she was here.
"[Name]," he mumbles. "Come back, please."
Although he something in him hates not doing as [Name] says, Itachi sits up.
She said, take a nap, so take a nap! He yells at himself, but he can't seem to respond correctly to that command.
Itachi stands and makes his way to the window. He opens the curtains and peeks outside. All he knows is this house. He's never seen the house across the street, let alone her front yard—which is patchy by the way.
"I should fix that for her," he says and pulls away from the window.
Within moments, Itachi is outside. He finds a water hose that seems like it hasn't been touch in years. He turns on the water, and it spurts from the end. Soon, the patchy yellow lawn finds relief in the fresh water on this warm day.
Itachi smiles, finding peace in the work he's doing. At least with this, [Name's] just a nagging worry in the corner of his mind.
...
Mikoto has been searching for Sasuke all night, and nearly all day. East and West she's traveled in her little red car. The poor worried mother hasn't even eaten yet, nor has she had a sip of water.
Her hair's a mess, and to some people, Mikoto looks like a crazy person asking people where her son could be or if they've seen him.
Mrs. Uchiha drives into the less affluent suburbs of the South, wondering if Sasuke bought a cheap house far from home. Some of the houses are old, possibly belonging to older folks that happened to be passed down the family after numerous deaths.
She takes her time, spying into every house long enough to discern that Sasuke isn't in there. It's creepy, yes, but she's desperate.
Mikoto leisurely drives past a lovely little house, yet it had an unkempt lawn. She sees a young man watering the grass with a bright smile on his face. He looks familiar.
Mikoto slams on the breaks. The car screeches to a halt, tire marks lining the freshly paved street.
Stumbling from her car, she runs. She runs to him.
"Itachi!"
...
Itachi keeps to his own business until a red car strolls past him. That car makes him twitch, and for some reason, he remembers seeing that car before. But it's imbedded deep into his mind.
He twitches again when the car suddenly stops and out stumbles a woman with messy hair and bloodshot eyes.
She calls his name, and sheer terror shoots straight through him.
Danger. His sixth sense tells him. DANGER!
He drops the hose and steps towards the house.
"Itachi!" She cries again, and he turns, heading for the house quickly.
Mikoto steps in the sudden mud that's created due to the still-running water. Her heel snaps, and she stumbles forward, nearly falling onto the lawn. From where she stands, she sees the look of terror in his eyes right before the door slams.
"No! NO! Itachi!" She calls for him again, running up the little steps as best as she can in a broken heel, and banging against the door. "Itachi, please, Itachi!"
Itachi slumps against the door, hearing her cry for him from the outside.
He doesn't know why he ran, but his instincts told him to go, to get away.
Silence falls on the other side of the door, and Mikoto tries one more time. "Itachi, it's me, don't you remember your mother?"
After no response, she tries again, "Itachi, I'm looking for- Sasuke he-he's gone! He left! He's gone, Itachi!"
The name Sasuke. It's that familiar name Itachi knows, one of the things he remembers besides his own name. He knows Sasuke is in trouble, but gone? The last thing he remembers is that Sasuke was-
Itachi twitches again, and in his racing mind, a voice echos:
"Stop dad, please! No!"
It's Sasuke voice. He remembers it well. And whenever Sasuke cried out like that, Itachi would jump in to help him. But that time, he-
Itachi's body spasms again and that memory seems to disperse into nothingness.
The woman claiming to be his mother still knocks at the door, desperate to hear from him.
Itachi stands. He opens the door just enough to see the woman, and says, "Please leave, or I will call the police. If you do have any information about the whereabouts of Sasuke, then please return him to me, he's my brother."
The door is then closed in Mikoto's face. Her head drops. He's completely forgotten about her. He's forgotten about his mother. The frustration and pain she's felt for so long finally explodes from her.
A blood-curdling scream seems to echo throughout the neighborhood. Then the screech of car tires. The roar of an engine. Then nothing.
Silence.
But Itachi's mind is never silent. The ever-running conscious bursting with scorching thoughts and half-melted memories that instantly fall into the void of his subconscious's pit.
He twitches. He twitches. He twitches.
