"Papa." he came out of the flashback of 5 years back when his little daughter Riva called out to him in her cute childish tone.

"Hmm." he replied a little lost and looked at her. There she was, his little angel clad in a baby pink frock with two little ponytails at the either side of her head looking at him innocently.

"Why are you crying?" she asked him innocently.

That's when Vansh realized that his cheeks were wet. Reminiscing Riddhima, he ended up crying. God he missed her, so much! How he wished if he could see her once again, wrap her in his arms and never let go.

Smiling a little, he replied his cute angel, "Nothing."

Riva shook her head.
"Why are we here papa?" she asked again.
"You had told me that you would let me talk to momma on your birthday. Today is your happy happy birthday, right? Then where is she? I wanna talk to her."

Vansh looked at the big open field they were standing on while there was a big hot air balloon in the middle of it, waiting for them. Carefully hopping in the hot air balloon, he saw Riva smiling brightly as the balloon started going up. Picking her in his arms, Vansh enjoyed the moment with his daughter. But soon Riva's sweet smile turned into a frown and she asked again, "Where is momma? I want to talk to her. You promised me!"

Smiling sadly, Vansh reasoned, "Riva, your momma is with God. God took her to Him. As she is busy, she can't come to meet us. But we can send a letter to her and she will read it for sure."

"Why did God take her with him? She is my momma. She should be with me." Riva complained and Vansh smiled at her.

"Okay tell me, when you are in a garden which flower do you take first?"

"The most beautiful one." Riva answered.

"Just like that, God also took the best soul with him. And it was your momma."

Riva smiled understanding him.
"My momma is the best, right papa?"

"Yes. Now tell me what do you want to say to your momma? We are going to write a letter to her." Taking out a pen and a paper from his pocket, he indicated Riva to speak.

"Dear Momma, I love you. Your little Riva misses you too much. Papa also misses you. He didn't say that but I know. Please come to us as soon as possible. You remember that today is papa's happy birthday? But he never celebrates it. I don't know why............" Riva kept blabbering like she was talking to her best friend after so many years and Vansh kept penning them down. Vansh's eyes softened seeing so much love in Riva for her momma whom she never met.

Riddhima and he never had a kid together. And Vansh loved his wife so much that he couldn't give his wife's place to another woman. But he adopted a 2 year Riva from an orphanage as a mean of happiness. And now she was his life, his only reason to live. He provided her with as much love and happiness as possible. But deep down he knew, no matter how much he tried he can never fill the lack of mother from her life.

And sometimes it made him guilty. Guilty thinking that did he do it right adopting her selfish for his happiness knowing very well that Riva would be deprived of mother's love and care? What if some other couple had adopted her who could provide her a complete happy family if he didn't? Whenever he asked these questions to himself, he never got an answer.

"Papa‌! Where are you lost? Did you even write what I said?" Riva whined.

Vansh came back from his thoughts and looked at her. "Yes, I did. Now let's make a aeroplane out of this paper."

Riva looked at him confused while he folded the paper in a aeroplane and handed it to her.
"Now throw the plane in the air and it will reach your momma soon." he instructed her.

Exclaiming in happiness, Riva threw it in air.
"Love you momma." she screamed in joy looking at the aeroplane flying hoping that it would reach her momma real soon.

Vansh looked at the reddish sky and the dawning sun in the background with Riva in his arms.
"Missing you terribly, sweetheart." he muttered sighing sadly while his eyes became a little teary. The Vansh who primarily thought that he wouldn't be able to live a single day without his sweetheart had passed 5 damn years without her. These years without her was difficult but the presence of a sunshine like Riva in his life had eased it much. But there would always be a certain emptiness in his heart that only Riddhima was capable to fill.

Maybe it was the cruelty of life that he have to live without her. Just like they say, "Life goes on."

The End
