Day 23: (MCD)
Zane's PoV:
I shift uncomfortably on the bench before looking around me. Nothing has changed since the last time I checked. The town's people were going about their usual business, only occasionally throwing me dirty looks.
"Zane-Kun," Four says, gently shaking my shoulder. "Do you want to try again?"
I sigh, turning my attention back to her. "Might as well."
"Alright, how about..." Four pauses, looking around the center of Phoenix Drop. Her eyes land on her daughter as she points at her. "Alright, Zane-Kun, try Nekoette~Tan."
"S– Sixty," I grimace before groaning.
"It's alright, Zane-Kun, try again," Four smiles at me encouragingly before repeating Sixty's name slower. "Ne– ko– ette–Tan."
I turn all of my focus onto Sixty, watching her playing cards with the rest of the children. "Sixty... dang, it."
"Don't worry, Zane-Kun, you'll learn soon," Four says, rubbing my shoulder.
"Maybe," I sigh, looking down. "I might have lost the ability to say anyone's name permanently now."
I shudder at the thought.
Four quickly grabs my hand and gives it a soft squeeze. "No, Zane-Kun, you did it once before, you can do it again. Kawaii~Chan believes in you."
I feel my face warm up before squeezing her hand in return, "Thanks Four."
Four quickly untangles our fingers from each other and turns away, trying to hide her blush. "A-anyway maybe Nekoette~Tan's name is a little difficult for Zane-Kun. How about..."
I stare at Four as I lightly press my fingers against my lips. Even though it's been two days I can still feel her soft lips pressed against mine. I slightly adjust my mask, making sure it's covering my blush.
"Hey... Four," I mutter.
"Yes, Zane-Kun," Four chirps, still examining everyone in view.
"Erm... should we talk about... you know... what happened a few days ago," I finish awkwardly, feeling my face warm up even more.
"Umm... Kawaii~Chan doesn't know what Zane-Kun is referring to," Four grimaces before pointing at Fifty-five unloading a wagon with Fifty-two. "Try and say, Logan-Kun."
"Fi– Fift... Fifty-five," I mutter and pinch the bridge of my nose. "Seriously, Four shouldn't we talk about... you know... the– the kiss."
Four's cheeks darken profusely, "No, Zane-Kun. Kawaii~Chan doesn't think we should."
"Why not?" I grimace.
"You know why," Four scowls. "I'm married to Dante."
"I– I know, I just..." I pause, lowering my head. "...I guess it made me miss my Four. I just thought that... I dunno..."
I stop as Four's eyes soften and a small frown traces across her face. "Sorry, Zane, I know you miss your home."
I shrug, "Don't worry Four. If anything I should apologize. I know that the kiss was just as surprising for you as it was for me."
"It was kinda nice though," Four whispers to herself.
"What was that?" I frown.
"Nothing," Four says hurriedly before pointing at Fifty-four, talking to Fifty-two. "She's Zoey."
