Day 34: (MCD)

Dante's PoV:

I lean back on the bench in the center of town before scowling as my thoughts turn to Zane. I run my fingers through my hair when I think about how he talked to Kawaii~Chan. Why did he seem so comfortable with her?

I sigh and pinch the bridge of my nose when I think about how Kawaii~Chan is so kind to him. Why would she be nice to Zane Ro'Meave? It's almost like she enjoys spending time with him. Why would she pick him over me?

I roll my eyes at the thought and bite the inside of my cheek.

"Heya, Dante," I look up and see Alexis smiling at me.

I grunt in response before looking away.

"Okay..." Alexis frowns. "What's got you in such a sour mood?"

"What do you think?" I say coolly. "Or rather, who do you think?"

Alexis grimaces, "Zane?"

"Yep," I tsk.

"Did something happen?" Alexis asks.

"You could say that," I sigh.

"Mind if I sit?" Alexis asks, pointing at the empty spot on the bench.

"Huh? Oh– sure." I shrug.

Alexis smiles before sitting next to me. "Wanna talk about what happened?"

"I suppose," I grumble, rubbing my temple. "You know that it's my day off, and I thought that Kawaii~Chan would want to spend it with me. But she has to watch over Zane."

"I can see why you're upset then," Alexis nods. "But–"

"I know, I know," I interrupt, waving my hand. "Lady Aphmau and Lord Levin assigned Kawaii~Chan to keep her eye on Zane."

"I thought she volunteered," Alexis mutters before turning to me. "I feel like something else is bothering you."

"Is it that obvious?" I grunt sarcastically as Alexis cocks an eyebrow at me. "Yeah, when Zane came over today it seemed like Kawaii~Chan was almost... happy... I guess? Like she wanted to see him."

"Hmm... I've actually noticed that too," Alexis taps her chin. "But I think it's good that the two of them are getting along. Aren't you glad that Kawaii~Chan is enjoying Zane's company, rather than loathing it?"

"I would if it was anyone other than Zane," I growl.

"Why?" Alexis frowns.

"It's Zane Ro'Meave!" I say exasperated. "He's pure evil."

"I get where you're coming from, believe me..." Alexis grimaces before continuing. "But this Zane isn't the same."

I scowl in response, "Even if Zane is telling the truth about being from another universe he's still the same person as the High Priest."

"I get what you're saying, but if you take some time and talk with Zane, you'll see that he's... different," Alexis says, scratching the back of her head.

I groan, "Not you too."

"Huh? What do you mean?" Alexis asks, tilting her head.

I look at her exasperated, "Zane is an expert manipulator, there is no way that he's actually telling the truth."

Alexis hangs her head. "If you don't trust Zane so much then why do you let him spend time with Kawaii~Chan when–" Alexis cuts herself off.

"What?" I ask, giving her a miffed expression.
