Risks

Tom allowed me to leave his quarters shortly after I granted him the vision. In doing so he'd spared me the torment of further sexual and psychological predations, though it was clear he did so not out of any humanity, but purely because he was distracted by what I'd told him regarding the sword.

As I stepped out of his chambers and into the hallway, I breathed a deep sigh of relief. Lately just being in his presence, especially alone, made the mere act of breathing seem a difficult task. Pausing and staring down the long, quiet corridor, I considered how he'd spend the rest of his night. I'd absolutely no doubt he was beginning immediate machinations towards claiming the sword as his own.

But you won't get it, Thomas. Not if I can help it.

Shaking myself out of my thoughts and into action, I strode quickly through the empty corridors. And with each step I took, my relief at having been freed from Tom's company was quickly replaced by a strong sense of dread and worry over how I'd get my message to Ra.

But sometimes fate has a way of working itself out, and opportunity presents itself.

Sometimes the flowers arrange themselves.

This happened to be one of those occasions, because as I turned the corner, there he was, standing as though waiting for me.

He hadn't, of course. Our meeting like this had been pure coincidence. I could tell immediately from the look of complete shock on his face. Coming to an abrupt stop, the two of us stood staring at one another, frozen in surprise.

"You -" I practically whispered the exclamation, so completely taken aback by this stroke of fortune.

"Me. You."

"Yes," I nodded excitedly, clasping my hands together in front of me.

Take the risk.

I wouldn't have been given advice that led me astray. I learned long ago to trust my visions. Now was not the time to hesitate, even though I feared that at any moment someone else might round the corner and our opportunity would disappear forever. And so, without any further thought, I grabbed his hand and tugged at him desperately, "Please. Please!"

Ra didn't ask, didn't question; he let me lead him along. Glancing frantically around us to confirm we truly were alone, I pulled him with me into my room and shut the door softly behind us.

Certainly this is risky. This has to rank among the riskiest things I've done since being brought here.

For a few seconds, neither of us spoke. I stood, my back pressed against the bedroom door looking up at him as he hovered just shy of me. I was aware of just how hard my heart was beating, and I could hear my blood pulse through my ears.

"I need you to read my mind, and quickly. A matter of extreme urgency."

He nodded and closed the distance between us, our foreheads touching as he brought both hands to rest on either side of my face. Silence again, as I tried to project everything that'd just happened regarding the sword and Tom to him as clearly as I could.

Strictly speaking, he didn't need to touch me to hear my thoughts - but the physical contact helped, and I wanted to make sure he absorbed absolutely everything possible, down to the most minute detail.

We stood like this for several more seconds before he pulled back ever so slightly and blinked slowly, "I understand perfectly. Yes, I can leave first thing in the morning. I'll go to Hogwarts, and it will be taken care of. He won't find it."

"... You have free reign to come and go as you please without raising suspicions?" My voice wavered and I wrung my hands as I asked. I was seriously worried about putting him in such a direct line of danger.
