3:15 pm on a Tuesday afternoon, the sound of a cap popping off the bottle echoed in the apartment as Mingi let out a sigh and wrapped his lips around the newly opened bottle, taking a quick chug of the liquid that slithered down his throat and made his face slightly scrunch up. He placed the bottle onto the table and tapped it with his ring, only to gaze down at it and admire the craftsmanship of it. It was a gift from Seonghwa for his 20th birthday, Mingi wasn't always big on birthday's or receiving fancy presents but this was the one gift that mingi treasured with his whole life. He's had it for three years now and he spent at least a few minutes every day just staring at it, althought lately he felt he had been spending hours just staring at it, like he was waiting for something to happen if he did just watch it.
Like his mind was so constantly overflowed with thoughts and he just lost sight on the world around him.
His partner was currently nine months pregnant with their first child, and Mingi felt his entire world slowly closing down around him. As if the walls of any room he was in were moving in on him. At first, he couldn't wait to be a dad. The idea of spoiling his baby and teaching them to ride a bike, taking them to the beach and building sand castles with them, finally having the chance to imprint on someone and help them become the person they are in the future.
The first trimester was when Mingi felt the happiest, seeing the baby at scans and seeing the small curve of Seonghwa's middle. The second three months after that were a little more difficult and was when pregnancy hormones really peaked for Seonghwa. Mood swings left right and center, pregnancy cravings that left the younger on a scavenger hunt at the middle of the morning, the bump growing and causing Seonghwa to find a growing struggling on doing basic tasks like washing his legs in the shower.
But when he reached seven months, Mingi began to shut down. It all began to feel a little too real for him. Decorating the nursery for their baby and buying all the needed things for them like a car seat, high-chair, baby bed and changing station. His entire life was changing and it had happened way too fast for the boy to comprehend. His apartment went from being a clear space with his console games and all his designer shoes to being filled with diapers and baby bottles.
He's only now realized how much a baby affected his life. He realized that he wasn't ready to give up his free, laidback lifestyle to take care of a baby all the time. He'd have to stay at home with a crying baby while most of his friends were probably out partying, getting wasted and just living their early twenties to the fullest. He'd only just come to terms with the idea of how much a baby changed someones life and he was really starting to question whether this was the life he wanted. He wished he'd given it some better thought a few months ago because he had no clue anymore...
Mingi has a past of being quite the 'party animal' as some of his friends called him. But he didn't like the name, it glorified the dark reality behind it all. When he was about 16 he went out with his friends with a fake ID and managed to get in, he was tall for his age so it didn't look unnatural for him to claim he was 18, and he eventually got his hands on a very dangerous substance.
Coke.
He tried it for the first time in the bathroom with another one of his friends, sadly he wasn't like the older and wasn't able to keep it as a one time thing. Days passed after that night and he found himself craving to reach that high again, itching for it. Every waking hour of those days he spent having hot sweats and a dry throat, sore nose, as he wished to get his hands on it.
