Áine ran. The winds couldn't stop her. If she got to the giant red oak, Mother Danu would protect her.

It was easy for one to lose faith, but Áine knew better.

Her village was burned to the ground. Everyone she had ever known and loved was killed or captured.

Romans.

Áine was sure the Morrígan would get them in their sleep. It was the Spring Offering, and they shed blood. Her people's blood on their ancestors' land.

Áine couldn't allow herself to stop and question the gods. In the end, they were all she had and all she needed.
