I watched Stone pummel the redheaded boy in the ring, his fists raining down on him like hail. I winced involuntarily, biting my lip as I saw the boy flop to the floor, both his eyes swollen shut. Damn-
Stone turned his gaze to me, his eyes widening when he saw I had been watching him fighting. As if it was reflex, he leaned down to lift the boy to his feet, muttering a few words to him and then patting him on the back. The boy smiled despite his many wounds and hopped off to find his friends, who he started murmuring to in excitement.
I wondered what Stone had told him.
I felt my phone buzz in my pocket.
Tyler: I'm outside. WTF is this place, it looks like a colosseum.
Yeah, well...
Ella: Ok, omw out, wait a sec
I quickly grabbed my red heels that I had taken off, the pain too much to bear, and began making my way outside, trying to be inconspicuous.
Turns out, I was incredibly untalented when it came to inconspicuous-ity.
"Where do you think you're going?" I heard a low voice growl from behind me.
Slowly turning, I met the piercing eyes of Stone and grimaced. "Um... I have to go...Home."
He laughed lowly. "Home?"
I nodded.
Stone glanced at me, and then at the door. "No."
I furrowed my brows and crossed my arms. "You can't stop me."
He leaned forward and plucked the heels from my hands. "Is that a challenge, Medusa? I do love a good challenge."
I frowned and tried to grab my heels back from him. "No, Stone. I'm going."
He tilted his head. "And how do you think you're getting home, Drizella? Because there is no fucking way you're walking, not without shoes."
"I have shoes," I muttered, gesturing to my stolen heels.
"There is no fucking way you're walking anywhere in these. You could trip."
I shrugged.
He continued talking, stepping closer. "And there is no way you're taking the subway without me. Not with all the creeps that ride it."
I laughed lightly. "I ride the subway all the time, Stone. Does that make me a creep?"
He narrowed his eyes. "And dream the fuck on about taking an Uber. I don't trust those motherfuckers."
I laughed again. "What, you don't trust people who have jobs?"
He stepped closer, reaching out to cup my face. "No, Ella. I don't trust people who aren't me."
I stared into his black eyes, my thoughts melting away from the heat of his gaze.
I stepped back. "Stone... Tyler. Tyler is... Uh... Tyler is outside. Waiting for me."
Like I had flipped on a switch, Stone's eyes darkened, his fists clenched. His jaw sharpened as he ground his teeth. "Fuck no."
"Stone-"
He cut me off, his hand dropping from my face. "Fuck. No."
"Brennan!" He growled, the man in question turning to glance at him quickly. "Come with me," he muttered to him, storming towards the door. "We have some trash to take out."
I hurried after him, all the while cursing myself for letting these two men ever cross paths. I'm such an idiot, fuck.
Stone slammed the door open, his eyes blazing as he looked around until they landed on the brown-haired man who was talking into the phone.
