The bar had one or two loiterers, but other than them it was just Ren, Lana, and I, sitting at the bar table talking with Finn.

"So, Finn," Lana asked, leaning forward with her Shirley Temple clutched in her hand. "You like music?"

Finn nodded, grinning. "Hell yeah, I work for this dude in downtown Brooklyn who has the dopest studio ever. My boyfriend produced an entire album there."

Lana's eyes widened, sparkling. "Who's your boyfriend?"

Finn smirked. "You've probably heard of him. Lil' Pine?"

Lana laughed in disbelief. "No way. Lil' Pine's your boyfriend?"

Finn nodded and poured Ren another shot. "Sure is. If you want I can talk to him about getting you some studio space here."

Lana smiled wide and clapped. "Yes! Yes, please. I love you, Finn."

Finn returned her smile, and then looked at me. "Can't believe you've been hiding this doll down in 'Monica, Ella."

I smiled softly, reaching out to squeeze Lana's hand. "To be honest, I can't believe it either. It's been too long."

She scooted closer to me and leaned her head on my shoulder.

Ren clapped her hands, her eyes squinting in endearment. "I've been waiting for this for so long." She turned to Finn, "do you know how much this girl bitch and moaned about her long-lost friend Lana?"

I narrowed my eyes at the fiery girl. "I never bitch and moaned."

Ren crossed her arms. "You're a bitch,"

I raised a finger to correct her, "that bitch."

Ren nodded nonchalantly. "Right, that bitch. And you moan a lot."

Lana raised a brow. "And you know, how?"

Ren and I shared a glance and then we shrugged simultaneously.

Lana sat up straight, her eyes flicking between us before she started laughing, taking a gulp of her Shirley. "No way."

Finn looked confused before his eyes lit up. "Oh you fuckers, you hooked up?"

Ren smiled secretively, and I mimicked her expression.

Lana grinned. "Was this during your Tyler era?"

I shook my head. "Before that era."

Ren threw back a shot. "It was during her clubbing-every-night era."

Lana laughed in disbelief. "I can't believe I missed that."

I quieted, the familiar guilt of leaving Lana in Santa Monica coming back. She noticed my sudden silence and rubbed her hand down my arm, her eyes full of understanding.

Ren suddenly stood up, her hand clutching her phone. "Ella, we gotta go."

I tilted my head. "Why?"

She flipped her phone my way, and I looked closer to read the print on the opened email. "Oh God, now?" I asked, quickly reaching to grab my purse.
